Is chili considered soup?

Asked by J0E (13172points) November 18th, 2010

Controversial question, I know.

I think it’s too thick to be considered a soup, but if it’s not a soup I don’t know what it would be. Thoughts?

I Just consider it chili. Awesome delicious chili

Yeah – chili is just…chili.

I don’t think that anyone would consider sloppy joe mix a soup – and it’s pretty much the same thing as chili.

no i think it falls under the category of the best fucking thing in the universe

Chili is chili, but if I had to categorize it, I would put it under stew.

as with @deni not only is it the BFTITU, rather than a soup, many of us consider it a cheeseburger topping.

oh geez, wish I could have a Tommy’s World Famous right now…

It’s listed under stews in my Betty Crocker cookbook. (Betty’s been around for a while.)

It’s awesome and delicious all the time… except in Cincinnati. There, it’s shit.

But even there, it’s in a class of its own. Not soup, not a stew. (Even in Cincinnati, where it’s just a runny mess, not even good enough to be a decent soup base.)

@CyanoticWasp that’s just for skyline chili. The cincinnati based resturant.

It’s a broth.
I’m kidding, but I had to say it.
