You can exercise and count calories.

drink a glass of water before every meal, then eat till you feel full.
I also opt to take the stairs whenever given the choice between that or an elevator/escalator.

Burn more calories than you eat.

My husband and I are doing this, mostly. We have largely cut out gluten and sugar. He lost 10 lbs his first week. I am also down 10, but in about 2 weeks.

My own personal experience confirms that not all calories are the same, no matter what people will try to tell you. An identical number of calories consumed as, say, fat and simple starches (potato chips) will have a very different effect than those consumed as complex carbohydrates such as broccoli. Each causes your glycemic load to react differently, which in turn changes both your metabolic rate and the amount of fat stored. If you want to lose weight without changing the number of calories you are currently consuming, switch from processed and cooked foods to whole, raw foods. That’s the single easiest change you can make which will have a significant effect.

Exercise at least 1 hr a day (I walk on the treadmill, fast pace… but you can start off slowly), for about 5 x a week. Cut bread, pasta, sugar, eat more at lunch time, eat very little later in the day… maybe one fruit with coffee, or juice… or salad or soup. Yes, you have to burn more calories than consume, pretty obvious… When you start cutting off slowly on food, you will get used to eating less. Try to occupy your mind with things, be active, don’t stress too much over your weight. The more you stress, the harder it will be to lose. Just eat little, but balanced, and exercise! There’s no secret to it.

Walk where you can….walking doesn’t take as long as you think and it’s refreshing. Drink more water. Get a bike? Jump rope, don’t eat too much of any one thing. Everything in moderation. Eat all day, but never a lot.

speed walk instead of running. You burn more calories because you don’t tire as quickly.

I agree with everyone who said walk more. Park your car further from the stores, take the stairs, pace when you’re on the phone. Maybe get a pedometer and try walking 10,000 steps a day. Limit your sugars, fatty foods, and things that you eat too often that are bad for you (like if you have ice cream every night, don’t. Or find a healthier alternative). I personally just joined Weight Watchers last week to try to lose about 15–25lbs ultimately. You could look into that too.

Cardio, and a good diet should help.

count your calories. you become more aware of how much your eating.

Eat smaller portions, and eat 5–6 meals a day rather than 2–3.

Here is a simple one, try eating grapefruit all day for two days then stop and for the next two days eat whatever just nothing too fatty, healthy stuff also if you drink soda lay off for this diet, juice on water. Then repeat this. Im telling you grapefruit is nasty but man does it work. you keep this up for just one week and you will be about 5 pounds lighter at the end of the week. try it.

@appletea1991 She is asking to lose weight not get sick. It is not healthy to eat just grapefruit for 2 days.

If you have a droid or an iphone:
get the myfitnesspal app.

If you dont, just use the website.

www.myfitnesspal.com

Easiest way to count calories.

I use the app on my droid and I use the webpage at work. :) It works like a charm.

Billy Blanks Ultimate Taebo dvd 3or 4 times a week, some strength training, eating smaller portions of healthier food and drinking a lot of water so you can flush out your immune system should get you the results you are looking for and help to build lean muscle which will make your body burn more calories even at rest.

It wont make you sick, I know alot of people that tried this diet and it worked for them I have done it my self i have never gotten sick from it. This is a real diet. Know you should not do this if you are pregnant. And like any diet if you do it for too long you will get sick, thats why you take breaks. I also would not recommend doing most diets out there for more then a week straight. good luck.

@appletea1991 you body needs nurishment everyday. Any respectable dietitian would disapprove of this diet.

appletea1991's avatar

I guess, I don’t think being over weight is any better though.

Mikewlf337's avatar

@appletea1991 Starving yourself by eating nothing but one type of fruit is alot worse that being overweight. I never heard of that diet you recommended. Sounds like something an anorexic came up with.

It’s all a numbers game. Burn more calories than you eat and your body will lose weight on its own. So, if that’s difficult for you, you’re going to have to start eating foods that don’t have a lot of calories, thus making it easier to burn more than you have in your body. You’ll also have to exercise while changing your diet. Light jogging, at about 75% of your maximum effort will do the trick. About 20 minutes a day.
