I ran into this racist site, and wanted to know if it’s legal.

Yes. Many countries have no laws against what you can put on the internet. Many that do are pretty much in line with whatever they would allow you to say/do in public. In the US it is perfectly legal to have an incredibly offensive racist site.

The only caveats are you can’t openly threaten people or things like that (also much like in real life).

Freedom of speech (at least in America), covers this.

(side note: You may want to put NSFW next to that link)

In the U.S., at least, it’s perfectly fine. Cases that have been brought to try to bring a “hate speech” exception to the first amendment in the U.S. have pretty much failed.

Unfortunately, it’s the price we pay to ensure that the government has extremely limited methods of pre-censoring us.

Is the internet the closest thing in this world to controlled anarchy?
but yeah, such is the price of online freedom, specifically in the United States. I wonder what the Chinese government would have to say on the subject?

If it isn’t, then it certainly should be. In fairness, I should say that I didn’t click on your link, I was alarmed enough by reading the link, never mind seeing what it took me to. There should be someplace a complaint can be made to? Yes, it’s foul, definitely. The title is anyway. Above anything I cherish the right to free speech, and @iamthemob is right, it is the price we pay for that free speech, that sick minds like this are allowed to spout their hate and nonsense. God that site name is alarming.

Free speech, first amendment, “don’t have to agree with what you say but I’ll fight to the death to defend your right to say it,” et., al.

The link disappeared! Must have been pretty bad!

Of course. Its part and parcel of free speech.

Part and parcel of free speech is that we have to put up with some truly obnoxious speech. THe good side is that with free speech, raving assholes have a perfect right to get on the Internet and announce to the whole world what a hate filled cesspool they have for a heart.

If the website is created by someone British, or is hosted in the UK (or other EU countries) then it’s not legal.

However even if as in the US it is legal, it still might not be within the Terms of Service of the hosting company, most of which do not allow racist sites or other hate propaganda. So you might not be able to get them arrested but you still might be able to get the website taken down.
