When you were a teenager, what colors were your special room?

Asked by john65pennington (29258points) April 26th, 2011

I remember when I was 15 years old that my parents finally allowed me to decorate my special room, as I wished. I had to work for the money to buy the paint and accessories. For some reason, my choice was a jungle setting. This room was far out, but it was mine. Question: what was your special room like and what were your colors and scheme?

Tan background wallpaper with 1900’s horseless buggies.

Purple. All purple. Walls, rug, bedspread. I still love purple, but hopefully my decorating skills have improved.

I painted my walls with a black paint that dried into the texture of a chalkboard. I had colored chalk and whenever my friends and family would come over, we would decorate my room with the colorful chalk. It’s honestly the coolest thing ever.

Red, black and grey. Before that I had a mural of clouds and a blue sky on the walls.

It was unthinkable that my parents gave my sister, my brother and me a choice about decorating our rooms. So I gave my kids carte-blanche.

My son decorated his with mainly piles of dirty clothes and mountains of books, photographic equipment, ski gear, musical instruments and a white rat in a large cage.

My daughter chose a brass bed, tiffany lamp, antique chest, blanket chest, and posters of artists she loved.

Ugh it still looks the same! When I was 14 I decided I wanted my room to look tropical. It’s bright aquamarine, green, and goldenrod yellow, and it’s BIG so there’s a ton of paint! Now that I’m older I only spend a couple weeks a year in that room, but I desperately want my parents to change it so I can stop being embarrassed when houseguests stay in my room.

I’ve had a lot of rooms as a teen, and in the group homes, I shared them with other kids. So I didn’t have much of a say in how they would look like. Neither did they. This was due to house rules though, not clashing tastes/opinions.
But when I was living with my dad, my rooms were decorated indeed. Not with paint though, I just stuck posters all over. Sailormoon posters, Final Fantasy and other video game posters, and any morbid or gothic stuff I could find to plaster my walls with. I even went online and printed stuff at school from creepy websites to decorate my room with.
I’m quite prone to nosebleeds when the weather changes drastically, so I also wrote and drew stuff on my walls with my blood, much to my dad’s dismay. (try cleaning that off, plus it turns brown when it dries so it doesn’t look as cool as when it’s fresh)
I was also a big fan of hanging chains, plastic skulls and dolls everywhere in my room. Lost all that shit though. Now I just have a replica of William Wallace’s claymore by my bedroom window.

I painted my bedroom bright red when I was 14ish. It’s still bright red…though I don’t live in it anymore, I still enjoy it when I’m home visiting. It is awesome.

Blue and white, with yellow accents. White wallpaper with blue flowers; blue bedspread; blue, white, and yellow curtains. Little flowers on things. <shudder>

I couldn’t stand anything that demure now. Now my room (my study or office; everyone in our house has his or her own room, even if we share a bedroom) looks like this. (The extremely messy desk is on the opposite side, and the crowded bookcases are on the wall opposite the windows.) Walls and ceiling are three shades of Monet-water-reflections purple.

I never did paint my bedroom any color, but it was still decorated. Lots of ‘art’: a poster of Richard Gere in Breathless, art posters, my own artwork and that of friends, and photos lined my walls. I had rainbow curtains, cool lamps, stickers all over my closet door, a bottle collection on a shelf, way too many stuffed animals, and a yellow circle phone. My room was like my apartment. There were two beds, an antique chair, a stereo and a TV. I loved that room.

That’ll be the cupboard under the stairs, so err…...black…...all black. whimper…sob :¬(
Not really, only kidding! I remember mine as some shade of blue, it was covered in posters so it’s quite hard to recall.

My walls were boring off-white, but I plastered them with posters and stuff cut out of magazines, and flyers from punk shows I went to and/or organized. My whole room was a disaster.

My bedroom was Aqua green when I was a teenager. I loved it.
