What is a good low-carb diet that includes cottage cheese and eggs?

Asked by john65pennington (29258points) May 16th, 2011

Back years ago, I went on this same low-carb diet and lost 30 pounds. My diet only included scrambled eggs and cottage cheese. I hated that diet plan then and I hate it now. I use it because it works for me. Question: is there anything I can add to cottage cheese and eggs that will give it more taste and not more carbohydrates? Ketchup would be good, if its not forbidden.

Herbs? Perhaps a couple shakes of dried rosemary in your eggs would make them more palatable.

Salsa to both, and you can also add them to each other.

I often scramble eggs in the microwave with a dash of water and a T. or two of low-fat cottage. Then a pinch of fresh dill, a sliced fresh tomato and there you have it.

Minced fresh dill fern
Fresh peas
Fire Roasted corn nibblets (Trader Joes)
A scoop of tuna fish on top of the cottage cheese
Sauteed multi-colored bell pepper strips (in the frozen section)
A can of Rotel salsa can be scooped onto stuff as it is or blended finer.
Sauteed spinach & onions

@john65pennington – you are only eating scrambled eggs and cottage cheese??? How long do you stay on this diet? Seems as if you would get so clogged up, you couldn’t stay on it very long indeed!

Low carb is a good way to lose weight but there are many foods that are low carb. Seriously have a look at this website and buy her book. I guarantee you will lose weight painlessly and you can eat lots of good low GI, only complex carb, type food without having to call the roto-rooter guy at the end!

First you get some cottage cheese. Second hard boil an egg or two. Third add to cheese.
Fourth smoke (ingest your preference) some amazing marijuana. Fifth enjoy the hell out of some cottage cheese and eggs.

@ovisaries, you have no idea how funny that really is!

Sadly, most ketchup is rather high in carbs; they put a lot of sugar in there. We are talking about 4g of carbs per tablespoon, so forget the Heinz. Most of your herbs and spices are under 0.5g/teaspoon, and a little can go a long way with some of them. Personally, I have a hard time eating eggs without salt, though usually a pinch will suffice. As for cottage cheese, I find that just getting the stuff from a local dairy instead of a corporate factory farm adds enough good taste to not need embellishment.

But the real catch is that you may lose weight on a low-carb diet, but you can’t keep it off unless you never eat normally again.

@jerv – now we have to disagree once again. You just have to add the carbs back into your diet slowly until you reach your max and you start to gain weight back. As long as you stay below that level of intake you will maintain. I can eat rice or potatoes and pasta as much as I want and won’t gain. But I must admit, I have to be extremely careful with white bread and anything that has sugar in it.

@rooeytoo You are talking to someone who ate a high-carb diet for most of my life and, until a year ago, was chronically 20 pounds underweight. Somehow, I get the sense that if I increased my carb intake back to it’s former level, I would lose the weight I gained. Hell, I upped it slightly and lost 5 pounds already!

Of course, I allow for the possibility that I have a freaky metabolism.

@jerv – I was addressing your words, “you may lose weight on a low-carb diet, but you can’t keep it off unless you never eat normally again.” I say you can incorporate carbs back into your diet once you reach your target weight, you simply have to do it judiciously. However, if you are overweight (or underweight), your diet is not “normal” for your body to begin with, so going back to what wasn’t working in the first place, doesn’t seem like too good an idea anyhow.

But it is possible you have a freaky metabolism!

Horseradish , mustard, hot sauces ( Vietnamese, Mexican, Louisiana ) and Peppercorns. Get horseradish with beet juice in it, drain juice off and add to cottage cheese.

Check out 4-Hour Body by Tim Ferriss. Eggs and cottage cheese are core ingredients of this diet (along with beans and spinach or other veggies). I lost 10 lbs in 40 days following this diet rather loosely. It’s a good plan for a guy, because you really can eat your way out of the problem.
