Have you ever started a screenplay and finished writing it?

Asked by mazingerz88 (28814points) May 31st, 2011

Ok I’ve been writing this horror script which I wanted to finish in two months but now it has been three months and I’m not done yet. Have you ever written a screenplay and if you did can you tell me how long it took you to finish it and how you got there?

It’s not the writing. It’s the re-writing. All good writing is re-writing.My process is I’ll write something on a tear, like 3 or 4 weeks, then I put it down. Then after a couple of weeks I re-read (And re-write)_it. Then I let someone I trust see it and give me feedback.

Here’s a blog that can help you. This guy’s plenty smart.

And I should’ve rewritten my previous paragraph. It’s lousy with mistakes. :/

I have never written a screenplay but I have written two novels. One (about 85,000 words) took me about 6–8 months including revision. The second one (about 52,000 words), I wrote the first draft in under a month and then discarded it, it wasn’t even worth revising.

I wrote a half dozen at 10–12 pages a week (working at a 9–5 job). I also wrote one over a 4 day weekend. Last one I wrote in about 8 weeks.

I have been ignoring one I started a couple years back. I am sure it would be bought by a studio once it is done, but I am trying to get the exact right notes, and I rather wait till the inspiration is right.
