Suppose you found a sunken treasure chest with plenty of old gold inside. What would you do with it?

It could happen. Sunken ships are located everyday. Most of their cargo is not gold, but what if they were and you had complete control over your find. Question: what would you do with, say, three thousand pounds of gold you discovered?

I would wait one day, then check syz’ question to see if there are satisfying answers and go from there.

Hide it in several different locations until I can figure out what the hell I can do with it. I can shift some gold, but not that much.

Just out of curiosity, there is no smoke without fire… where the hell did you find it?

I’d bury it and wait till the world turns upside down and then use it to survive as money/credit will be worthless.

Sell it to the highest bidder. Then buy me some rum, a parrot, a Capuchin monkey and an eye patch. Arrr!

Well, first you would only get the portion that the state or Federal government or whoever claimed the find allowed you to have.

Then, I would beef up my retirement savings and ravel with the rest.

I’d sell it off quietly to collectors to avoid claims from other parties, fill up several bank accounts with the profits, pay off all my debts, pay off all of my father’s debt, and otherwise live normally (but with fewer concerns about future economic hardships).

@Cruiser Gold is only valuable because people think it is, just like dollar bills or plastic cards. In the event of a global economic meltdown, only an idiot would trade you something useful in exchange for a hunk of shiny metal.

The first thing I would do is hold up a great mound of it in my hands and let it trickle between my fingers while I yelled, ”Yaarrgh!

Then I would contact a gold dealer, a rare coin dealer, a museum, and the folks from Antiques Road Show to figure out how much it’s worth. Finally, sell, baby, sell!

Cash that shit in and live like a queen, what else?
I’d rather find a whole stash of 300 year old rum bottles though, truth be telt.

Keep some as a souvenier, and sell the rest. At nearly 2 grand an ounce its totally worth it.

I’d cash some in, give a few to a museum or something, save the rest and slowly cash out.

Give it back to Terry, it’s all his by rights after all ;¬}
