Is there something in your life right now that you feel must be rooted out?

Asked by AstroChuck (37609points) October 6th, 2011

You know, some kind of trait or practice that should be nipped in the bud. Examples could be things such as extreme procrastination, hoarding, or pornography addiction?
Me? I tend to make plans and then keep putting them off due to laziness. What vices, habits, behavioral traits, etc. do you have that you feel need to be changed or discontinued?

Yeah- I need to stop making excuses and start painting.

Jude's avatar

Yes. Not following through with things. I’m notorious for that.

I’ve been drinking coffee lately, and I want to stop.

GabrielsLamb's avatar

Yup… Me!

In almost every conceivable way. Unfortunately between the torment and the nonsence, I have no idea how to do that. And I will probably never be given that chance either.

But that being said, I’ll figure it out. I always do. As Bette sang…

“One Monkey don’t stop no show.”

@Dog Considering the whole “Dog” theme… I read it fast the first time and thought you said…

Panting.

LOL

Yeah, that big arse tree in my neighbours garden, blocks out all the light so it does.

GabrielsLamb's avatar

@ucme Gasoline… *Kidding. No tree killing.

Me is mainly my insecurity I feel quite unsafe a lot of the time mainly with people I care.

I want to get back to writing fiction.

GabrielsLamb's avatar

@marinelife I find that the biggest hurdle that writrs actually face that keeps them from writing is the physical and quite tedious event of writing itself. THinking is easy, creating is simple but the actual tedious act of writing it all down is a deterrent.

So I suggest Dragon voice software. It is Fuc*ing BRILLIANT!

GabrielsLamb's avatar

@Londongirl No worries my dear… I can kick some major booty and I got your back!

I am a Christian, and lately I have harbored a lot of bitterness towards right wing Christians. I need to love them as unconditionally as I do non Christians, I just expect so much more. I have to get over it or I’m no better than them.
I hope someone resurrects this question in a year so we can all see if we accomplished our goals.

Yep, I have fallen into extreme hedonism this year, gained weight, stopped exercising, have not been telling myself “NO!” enough! I’m working on it, but hey, as far as I am concerned as long as you’re not a psychopath everything can be worked on. lol

Londongirl's avatar

@GabrielsLamb They were not booty, we did go out just not too long then find out they weren’t into serious… :( I need to get to handle them better next time!!!

quite a few.
Firstly though,
toxic individuals who perceive
my kindness as weakness- or those who
just work on cutting me or others down all
of the time.

also just bullshit in general.
no more sugar coating, just more honesty
and living.

My bad health habits and my laziness. They combine to form the perfect storm to increase my level of pain exponentially. :/

laineybug's avatar

Procrastination is one of my worst traits, and I have more work than last year now. if you would listen to me about what you buy in the grocery store, some of the bad health habits would go away. Remember, I’m watching you there from now on. No candy bars for you young lady!

Coloma's avatar

@laineybug

I know myself really well, and I KNOW, if I bring the chips and ice cream in the door I WILL eat them! lol
Maybe not today, maybe not even tomorrow, but they will be consumed. haha

Out of sight is not out of mind, that’s why they have to never make it into the basket to begin with. ;-)

stardust's avatar

Yes, I need to work on my productivity. I also really need to work on sticking to a budget – it’s a necessity at this stage.

tedibear's avatar

Awww! @laineybug – way to take care of your mom. @augustlan – Good kid you’ve got there! She loves you enough to kvetch at you. :D

Let’s see, mostly I need to stop procrastinating about exercise and career issues. I have this great idea and I keep stopping myself from moving forward. Bah! Oh, and some self-esteem work might be a good idea.

I really like @Judi‘s suggestion that this question be reposted in a year so we can all see if any have accomplished their goals.

You guys should all do your enneagram personality profiling. Man..they are dead on with me…
number #7 “The Enthusiast/Epicure with the #8 wing of the “Challenger.” My vice is gluttony each personality has a corresponding vice “sin.” I am a glutton for LIFE! Haha…intellectual/mental stimulation, information, a glutton for conversation, food, sometimes alcohol, occasionally happy brownies LOL

I’m the type that can either be amazingly awesomely, glowingly healthy, or a heroin addict in the gutter. LOL I’m always at the extremes of the poles. No, not heroin Never
Supposedly the Epicure is the highest for addictiveness. Figures. lol

Berserker's avatar

I procrastinate too much. For like really important things, like homework or paying stuff. I get it done yeah, but I could probably do without all the anxiety and panic I create for myself by always doing everything on the last minute.
Drinking should probably go. I need to take care of my health better. Can’t unprocrastinate that lol.
