Why is Night of a Thousand Masks on November 11th?

Asked by Aethelflaed (13752points) November 10th, 2011

So, Anonymous (the Hacktivist group) is throwing a Night of a Thousand Masks night. Which, as far as I can tell, is basically where you show up at St. Paul’s Cathedral and reenact the climactic scene of V for Vendetta. Which then begs the question: Given Anonymous’s giant love affair with V for Vendetta, why didn’t they have it on the 5th of November? I’d totally get it if it was currently May or something, and the 5th of November was months away, and Occupy is going on right now and you can’t always wait months to be part of a social movement, but the 5th of November was less than a week ago. Why schedule this event for 6 days after Anonymous’s “day”?

Here’s hoping the Fluther community pays more attention to Anonymous than I do.

It looks like, searching google news, somebody tried to get something going for the fifth but it didn’t widely circulate. So they are attempting to reschedule for the 11th with more publicity.

It doesn’t matter, the world is going to end today, on 11–11-11, possibly at 11:11 a.m. or maybe 11:11 p.m or maybe not at all, haven’t you heard? Or maybe it was supposed end before now or maybe it’s supposed to end in 2012, or some other time. I don’t know, it’s very confusing. How am I supposed to plan for the end of the world if they keep rescheduling it? The Prophets of Doom need to get all their ducks in a row if you ask me!

Anyway, any event that might require the mass wearing of Guy Fawkes masks I am not interest in. Sorry, not paying attention. Question authority! No matter how tenuous and how lacking in a real power base that authority might be. I’m not wearing the mask, and I’m not wearing just because someone told me I should wear it.

Is that the night of the ugly bug ball in Brussels?

Be careful.
Anonymous are not leaders nor a brand. I doubt that they are even part of your link.
Propaganda is rife in this world but the feeling of justification is instinctual in our minds.
WE are anonymous!
(get it?)
