(NSFW) Would you ever work in the adult movie sector?

Asked by Earthflag (549points) November 22nd, 2011

Why do you think you would and why not? I’m not saying it would be your full time job… Maybe part time. I would never do it because I find it quite horrible just the way it is. Women are being exposed as something they are not.

I would not think of it now, I am engaged.

@Hypocrisy_Central congratulations on your engagement!

But I am not engaged by I wouldn’t work in the adult movie sector, I hate to be on camera with my clothes on let alone with them off. I also know that I can make a life for myself by using my brain not my boobs. I don’t watch porn but I have no problems with people who do as long as it doesn’t get out of hand. If someone wants to have sex on film for money, let them, I just wouldn’t want to do it myself. Some porn is very demeaning to women, but I wouldn’t say all porn is (I know I said I don’t watch it but I have obviously seen some). But I still wouldn’t do it.

Possibly. If I were working within the feminist porn movement, with ethical pornographers, in which I got to pick which acts I did, with whom, and how (condoms and other barriers, for example), in a safe environment that focused on creating open communication, respect for boundaries, and enthusiastic consent, then it’s a definite possibility. There are definitely some pornographers whose work I admire. The big problem for me is not that other people would see me, but rather that a lot of times, once you go there, you can’t go back to “legit”. But then I think, between the Facebook generation phenomenon, in which pretty much everyone shows their less legit sides, and how huge amateur porn is (people just making sex videos of their normal sex lives and then throwing it up on redtube or youporn, for example), will that change? Will we be forced to create a society that’s more open to those who have, in one sense or another, bared it all – and will that change happen soon enough?

Hell yeah, sign me up.

If the goal is to scare people off of porn for good, then yes, put me in front of the camera naked.

marinelife's avatar

No, because I feel the way that you do about the exploitation. Also, the workers are exposed to drugs and sexually-transmitted diseases.

tedd's avatar

I would not no.

Going further, I would be almost certain to never be romantically involved with someone who has.

Ayesha's avatar

If I get to do it with Kurt Lockwood, then hell yes.

Not as an actor, no. However, I’d have no qualms about working in the industry, in production, sales, marketing, etc. as long as the company I was representing didn’t engage in illegal activity (child porn, etc.).

If anyone wants to complain about women being represented in porn as something they’re not, they better also be complaining about the romance novel industry representing the “ideal man” as something that doesn’t exist, either. Personally, I think people have the right to fantasize about whatever nonexistent person they care to.

The quality picture given by HD porn nowadays is that crystal clear that you can actually see how disappointed their parents are!

ucme's avatar

^^ Parents? It’s the grandkids I feel for :¬(

Mat74UK's avatar

@ucme – You mean when they stumble across it on the web a few years down the line? :-D

ucme's avatar

@Mat74UK Yup, must be soul destroying.
“Here’s one of your grandma doing a spot of DP”…....

This is a hard one for me. It goes against everything I believe in, and yet there’s a nihilistic part of me that loves the image. Unfortunately, it is an image and a fantasy, not a reality of people cavorting in the sunshine, fucking whoever they want whenever they want. It’s work. It’s standing around naked in the cold, holding onto your dick, trying to keep it hard for a few moments of pleasure.

Ah, I’ve talked myself out of it. Give me a real woman (i.e., my wife) who is enthusiastic about me (at least sometimes) and willing to go… well… somewhere, if not everywhere and who is safe, medically speaking. That is much closer to the fantasy than working in the porn industry is.

Perhaps the fantasy doesn’t really exist anywhere. Even the old guy with goat legs running around in the sylvan glades, skewering the young innocents on the end of his supercharged phallus doesn’t exist. Mores the pity.

Luiveton's avatar

Ha, I invented porn.

Just kidding.

Coloma's avatar

No. Goes against my values, I’ve been around since the dawn of the porn explosion starting in the 70’s.

Now, 40% of all actors in the industry have STDS in one form or another and many are responsible for infecting many others.

I don’t believe that sexuality is meant to be entertainment, and, all in all, it is a pain and shame based industry of which I do not support.

Regardless of the mainstream acceptance of the porn glut in recent years, I doubt most of these “actors” feel good about telling grandma and grandpa about their latest “work” sitting around the Thanksgiving table. LOL

@Seek_Kolinahr hit the nail on the head for me!

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@Coloma That would make for some interesting table talk. But think of the fun Christmas gifts you could get.

Coloma's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe Haha..true.
I did go to a Pleasure Party a few years ago, we sparred with giant, velcro attached, inflated penises. Had to knock your opponents penis off. lolol

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@Coloma LMAO. That image is going to be tough to purge.

downtide's avatar

I’m unattractive and I don’t have the.. um… necessary equipment. So no, the odds of me ever working in that industry are about exactly zero.

mazingerz88's avatar

As a cameraman and acting coach to the women, yes. Lol.

Earthflag's avatar

@mazingerz88 , are you a superstar?

mazingerz88's avatar

@Earthflag Ha ha ha, I say acting coach merely in jest. : )

Earthflag's avatar

@mazingerz88 Who knows maybe you are Tom Cruise the anonymous on Fluther! :D

Neizvestnaya's avatar

As far as scriptwriting, casting and directing then yes.

Were you auditioning to become Dicksie Chicks? ;-)

My little brother once made a short movie with some friends.
I was an extra for 0,5 seconds but more importantly, I provided the crew with cookies and cola.
So yes, I would work in the adult movie business, as a caterer.

No. It’s too late for me. They wouldn’t accept me. When I was young? No. They wouldn’t have accepted me then either. Sigh.
