Do you have any good ideas for a photo shoot?

Asked by AnonymousWoman (6531points) December 31st, 2011

A few of my friends and I have planned to get together on Monday. One of my friends who is a photographer is coming along.

While I thought this was just going to be a fun time where my friend who just so happens to be a photographer would take pictures (like he agreed to do and my other friends agreed with), he admitted to me in a conversation that he was hoping to get at least a couple of good shots for his portfolio.

I am at a loss for ideas, though. We could do a New Year theme, but he wants to avoid doing a holiday theme as he wants the photos to be relevant for a longer period of time.

It is winter where I live and we have snow, so I was thinking of a winter theme. That being said, shooting inside is also an option.

Do you have any ideas that you view as worthy of trying out that we could do either indoors or outdoors that could result in some pretty awesome photographs? If so, please feel free to share.

Thank you in advance!

the possibilities really are endless. Your photographer should have an idea of what he wants to shoot. All I can suggest is no noon shots with snow. If you are shooting inside then the season does not matter.
What does the photographer currently shoot? What is his style? Just leaving a blank page open to fluther is endless. Who are your favorite photographers?
ideas anyway
You could build a field of snowmen.
Murder scene in the snow. One person bleeding out in the snow. Others standing around the body. High contrast b&w or fixed reds.
Washed out nudes in the snow.
Washed out portraits in the snow.
Long exposure snow angles.
snowball fight.
inside
cheesy 70’s hot chocolate drinkers by the fire.
foot wars on the couch.
monster scene. A couple of girls in the house looking out the window…Someone dressed as a monster looking in another window.
Tie everyone up in Xmas lights. Duck tape their mouth and write Happy New Year on it.

He is experienced with shooting nature/the outdoors, people, pets, sports, events, and more.

I like those ideas. Thanks, @judochop!

With a group of friends, a camera, and the dawn of 2012 Doomsday year upon us, I think a series of fear stricken facesin this stylecould be fun.

Some place where there is a fountain in the background.

I always liked photos on bridges or with ruins of an old building in the background. Photo-cliche, I know.

Find lots of architectural elements that are covered with snow: statues, corners of buildings, fences, windows, garage doors.

Find big swooping winter landscapes and have one or multiple people stand way in the background (like a band album cover or a romantic/mysterious why are these people standing in this abandoned field/junkyard/graveyard) Imagine your friends positioned within this scene

If you can stand the cold long enough for your friend to take the photos, put on costumes or outfits that are not “winter outfits” Something totally out of sync with the snow. Like this only with more out of place outfits.

For indoor photos, if you are lucky enough to have access to a wide open, big building like an abandoned warehouse, you can position each of your friends so that one is in the forefront, one in the middle ground and one in the background, make use of any cool natural light that might be coming in from the windows. Like this An empty church would work well for this too.
