What underwear does one wear when wearing leggings as pants?

Asked by Hypocrisy_Central (26879points) February 8th, 2012

When leggings are worn as pants, should the underwear be the same color as the legging, should it be nude in color, should you forgo the undies altogether to avoid VPLs or contrast ghost colors?

I would just wear whatever underwear you currently own, @Hypocrisy_Central.

Often leggings are stretched at the butt, so I would go with a similar color, or nude color.

Just make certain you don’t pull them up too high too tight to avoid camel toe.

A thong that won’t show through.

Thong.

You could just buy some real pants..
I hate when people wear leggings as pants.

@Hypocrisy_Central , Ummm, aren’t you a guy? If so I think you may need a jock strap to hold your stuff in and a long shirt to wear over the pants. Its like speedos on a man in the beach. No one wants to see the packaged out lined in public. It has the same effect as a horrible accident. You try not to look but you can’t help but look.
If your buying it for some girl, than I suggest she do the buying.

I wear either a breech clout (or breech cloth) or a loincloth with my leggings when I am performing as part of the local Corps of Discovery. But then I am going for historical accuracy not making a fashion statement.

What is the difference? The breech clout is fastened both in front and back, the loincloth only in the front.

@Pandora Why do you think it would be me? I could have to suggest to someone I know they should rethink the color of their underwear when they wear leggings as pants :-P

As far as the colors, mine are the color god made them. Most of my breech clouts are made of doeskin or homespun linen. I do have one foxskin that I wear for formal occasions.

What’s the point of leggings as pants if you wear underwear?

WestRiverrat's avatar

Leggings were originally to protect your legs from briars and thistles in the summer and to keep the legs warm in the winter. Summer leggings were usually made from doe or buckskin that had the hair scraped off during the tanning process.

Winter leggings were usually made from sheep, wolf or coyote and the hair was left on when it was tanned. The fur was then worn to the inside as this retained more body heat and required less cleaning if you got out in a briar patch while hunting.

Hence why I don’t understand why any women ever wear anything but thongs. I also am NOT okay with pants as leggings. They are unflattering on EVERYONE regardless of shape or size. God I hate them. It’s such an in thing right now where I live, and everytime I see a girl wearing leggings as pants (they are called leggings for a reason, miss) I wanna drop kick their face. Do I think thats a bit harsh? No

edit: did my own research.

If you’re wearing leggings, you really should be wearing a shirt that’s long enough to completely cover your ass. If so, it doesn’t matter what color or style the undies are.

Pandora's avatar

Unless the person is you kid or spouse, you may want to rethink making a suggestion.
@deni, I think it really depends on the thickness of the leggings and if they have a long shirt or skirt over it.

deni's avatar

@Pandora Well something over them of course is a different story. I get that, and I do it too. But when I see a girl in a normal t shirt and leggings I wanna say….“good for you! You just worked out! Maybe you should get changed now! :)”

I am with the “leggings should not be worn as pants crowd.” No one, regardless of figure type looks good in leggings. Aren’t they what used to be called tights and were worn under a skirt or slacks in really cold weather?

But if I were going to wear them, I would wear skins such as Under Armor under them, a lot more comfortable than thongs in my mind. How can you stand thongs or anal floss?

Hypocrisy_Central's avatar

Sooooo, this, this, and that should not be done legging-wise, huh?

Earthgirl's avatar

Hypocrisy Central IMHO the first girl is very stylish. I like the boots which give it an entirely different look than the high heels. I love the hat! The second and third looks are real losers though. I hate tight pants with high heels.

I am in agreement with all those who said that whatever is worn on top with the leggings should cover the hip, hitting at least in the middle preferably an inch or two lower. In that case, what type of underwear you have on is irrelevant. If your panty line would show then a thong seems the best way to go. I hate thongs though.Butt floss just doesn’t agree with me.

deni's avatar

@Hypocrisy_Central I think all three look bad. Yes.

filmfann's avatar

@Hypocrisy_Central I think all three are attractive, though the 3rd girl is far too thin.

wilma's avatar

@Hypocrisy_Central If the second girl was at a dance or exercise class then I think she wold be fine, as long as she wasn’t planning on going out like that afterward. The others don’t look attractively dressed to me.

The first pic is like Paris Hilton, why do people carry a dog in their pocket book??? Let the poor thing walk, I suppose she thinks hi fashion, I think “chuckle chuckle.”

Second is for working out

Third I think why are the guys in nice comfy baggy jeans, sneakers and t shirts and for some reason the woman has herself poured into tight, binding pants, and those shoes, what the hell is she thinking??? What male designer has convinced her that pain is a good thing, is she trying to entice the males or females? Why???

deni's avatar

I’m pretty sure thats Paris Hilton, and look how nonexistant her ass is. It looks horrible. She must not realize that any chance her ass had at existing to begin with, was erased when she put those tights on. Ugh. Why is it so hard to get.

edit: i’m referring to the third picture
