Can you help me find this floral upholstery fabric somewhere? (Details)

Asked by DarlingRhadamanthus (11273points) March 20th, 2012

Well, this is a long shot…but here goes….:)

I am looking at a lot of different sofa fabrics. I really like florals (as in washed out light florals). I thought this was a good compromise…it isn’t on a white background (as I usually prefer) but it is very neutral and a bit rustic. I found it on a sofa by a UK company…but I am sure it is available somewhere! I have the sofas, I just would like a lead on finding the fabric. (I like my own sofas and don’t want to buy this one.)

I like the roses and the neutral brown. The name of the fabric is simply “TeaStain” but that could be the name the company gave the fabric, and not the real name of the fabric. I know I have seen this before a number of years back in America (it takes a while to get trends here) so hopefully someone in the US or in the UK can find something similar to this…if not the exact pattern.

Here is a link to the UK company site…it is the floral one (not the violet one). Click on the small picture of it to get a larger image link

Any leads would be appreciated!

I think that pattern is exclusive to that company.
I’m not sure if these are along the lines of what you are looking for.

Emma’s Garden Tea Stainartisticfabrics.com

[links edited in] They are both Waverly products. waverly.com

The first fabric linked by @EnchantingEla is exactly what I thought of when I saw your pattern. It’s widely available in the US, and is lovely!

@EnchantingEla‘s first link looks like it to me. When I saw your photo link @DarlingRhadamanthus it reminded me of a Ralph Lauren fabric that I love. I don’t have time to look further for a link tonight, however, I think it’s a popular one.

@augustlan and @EnchantingEla Thank you so much for the suggestions! Wow, you are fast! I love the fabrics you dug up. I think they have a bit more gold…but gorgeous….! How did you find those so quickly?

I looked through the fabrics…on the websites you sent…it’s like heaven…so many choices. And it looks like hancock’s ships to the UK.

Now this is really funny/interesting…as I was looking at your answers, I had the tv on…it was an old episode of “Everybody Loves Raymond”. It was a scene where an uncle is sitting on the sofa…and the fabric on the sofa looked so much like what I posted! lol It’s sort of faded a bit and the roses are a bit muddy. I found this on one of your sites: link The background seems lighter, though, but similar.

@SpatzieLover…I looked on the Ralph Lauren site, but couldn’t find what you might have been referring to?

I think that this particular type of fabric was popular in the late 90’s early 00’s and is just being discovered here. I think that the fabric, though it is called “tea stain” is more just a bit brown rather than our traditional American tea stain.

Thank you for the suggestions. Lurve coming!

@DarlingRhadamanthus I am sure you have done this but just in case, did you contact the furniture manufacturer and ask them for the supplier’s name? They might be prepared to share OR you may be able to buy some of the fabric from them? Worth a try. The other thing you could try is to visit a local (but busy) upholsterer in your area and ask them? They would know all the fabric suppliers and probably have fabric books you can look through.

Sorry if I am doing a ‘Captain Obvious’ here.

I found this one too.

This from the Wortley Group fabrics.

I found this fabric library site too. I was thinking if you can’t see anything similar, you could send the fabric manufacturers your photo and ask if they have anything like that. A better photo might help though.

@DarlingRhadamanthus Waverly fabrics are promoted a lot in shelter magazines, and are used in so many products here. That one in particular was very popular, so I saw it everywhere! In fact, I have a chair in a very similar fabric sitting in my living room right now. :)

@Bellatrix…Thank you for the lovely swatch and for the information. No, I have not yet contacted them…I was hoping someone might give me a lead first as when a manufacturer says “Exclusive” they are not usually willing to give that out. I live in a rather rural area so the small shops here that deal in fabrics don’t always carry a large selection and they tend toward the basics. I have never seen anything close to this. But I just thought of one place that carries a lot of designer fabrics and maybe if I carry a photo in, they might be able to match it. Thank you again! And if you are “Captain Obvious”...at the moment I feel a bit like “Captain Clueless” lol…so I am appreciating any leads!

@augustlan…Waverly was/is an American favorite for me, but alas they don’t have those fabrics here (I don’t think). I had slipcovers in Waverly back home at one point. Stunning fabrics….always. Miss that. :) Thanks…and lurve to both of you.

Well….guess what? @Bellatrix was on the money! I called the sofa people and asked if they just sold the fabric or could give me the name of the fabric manufacturer. “We can sell the fabric.” What?? So much for “exclusive”! They must have meant exclusive distributors of the fabric…I thought they meant everything. So, a sample is on its way. After all this fuss, I may look at it in person and think, “Oh, no.” lol

So, if you are inclined, Jellies, keep sending suggestions.

And yes, Captain Cluelss did not look in the most obvious place first! You were right, @Bellatrix! lol

Yay! So are you going to do the upholstery yourself @DarlingRhadamanthus? I hope you will do before and after photos. I would love to see. Great we could help.

@Bellatrix…Thank you and thank you all….no, I am not doing the work myself…it would be an utter and complete mess! lol I am going to check out the fabric first and see if it looks right in the room, etc.

But I so appreiciate all the help here! xx DR
