Big green bug in my room?

Asked by minnie19 (435points) July 31st, 2012

It flies, too! It’s about the size of my pinky finger. I can’t even sleep. What is it? Is it harmful?

It’s a katydid. Totally harmless.

@thorninmud What if it flies on my face while I’m asleep and I crush it with my face and in the morning my face will be all green-ish and the bug will be exploded on my sheets and face???

Yes, it is a katydid.

They are nutritious, but an acquired taste. First timers should probably have them roasted and dipped in chocolate or rolled in powdered sugar

But yes it is a katydid.

According to the article, they are mostly flightless, but you can capture it and release it outside.

My father hit it with some clothing, and now it’s lost inside my room. And it’s late so I need to sleep… :(

@Pied_Pfeffer Maybe… But it’s thinner, and it flies with those small wings like a helicopter.

@minnie19 It’s a risk we all take. Bug guts always suck. It could be worse. It could crawl in your throat, cause you to choke, and you die. It’s harmless unless you’re plant matter.

Yep, it’‘s a Katydid and for cryin’ out loud don’t be a wussy, just pick it up and put it outside. How would you like to be trapped in someones bedroom with a person that wants to kill you?
