Great songs to learn on guitar?

Asked by Eight (503points) June 3rd, 2008

What songs did you learn how to play on guitar when you were getting started that really got you stoked? What would you like to learn. I’m thinking more of beginner-intermediate skill levels. We’d all like to be Jimi (Hendrix or Page) but I’m thinking titles by Nirvana, Green Day, Modest Mouse, Jack Johnson, etc.

Free Fallin by Tom Petty, Inaudible Melodies and Banana Pancakes by Jack Johnson, Redemption Song and No Woman No Cry by Bob Marley, Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd, Diamonds on the Inside by Ben Harper, Out Loud by Dispatch, and Green Spandex by Xavier Rudd. These were some of my beginner/intermediate songs that I taught myself how to play on.

Smoke on the Water….

@ boffin- Smoke on the Water is only begginer. It’s not very intermediate. Still a good song though. ; )

Sweet Dreams by Manson is an ok one. The main riff is similar to the riff of Crazy Train by Ozzy. Its a little slower and the rest of the song is easy so its not as difficult as Crazy Train.

“we’re going to be friends” by the white stripes is very easy but a good song to know how to play!

@Randy Okay, let’s kick it up a notch with “Classical Gas”.

I consider myself a intermediate guitarist at this point and I just finished learning Aerials by System of a Down. I think it is a great song for the intermediate guitarist as it incorporates some picking variations as well as it has good movement/ use of the neck and you have to switch between clean and dirty tones so you get some pedal practice as well.

First (and only, lol) song I learned was Sweet Home Alabama. :) It’s very fun to play, and people love to sing along!

the first songs i learned was you shook me all night long and whole lotta love, then i learned a lot of kiss stuff like strutter, deuce, love gun (i remember i had a hard time with the solo) at more intermediate i remember me playing highway star, the number of the beast, hit the lights , and more advanced stuff like cliffs of dover, lack of comprehension, hangar 18 etc

REALLY cool stuff right now are songs like fluorescent adolescent, take me out, tick tick boom, teddy picker, winning days etc
they are really great and easy songs
