How can this room be so warm all the time?

Asked by BBawlight (2437points) September 23rd, 2012

The computer room is towards the back of the house. My home is small and is heated and cooled by a window unit in the front of the house. My room is located in the very back and the computer room is right next to it. My room stays cool all the time, but the computer room is always so hot! Why?

Computers generate a LOT of heat. I can’t remember how many times I have burned myself when I had to go in and replace parts.

@WestRiverrat I thought it was the computer… I’m wearing as little clothing right now without being nude.

Yep, your CPU box and the monitor each can produce a couple hundred watts of heat.
Even a smallish flat panel display can be around 100 watts. A nice big one will be wafting heat out the top.
If you leave the computer on all the time, it’s like leaving a couple lamps on.

Also, is your computer room west or south facing? You might be getting some solar heat coming through the wall.
