Thanks guys, but that is not it. Unfortunately, I am lacking the music ability to explain this much better. The tune is something vaguely like the Beatles song Nowhere Man. I would not rule out the possibility that I grabbed a tune and subconscously put words to it.

I tried sounding out the tune and this is what I came up with for the note sequence. This should give at least a rough contour of the tune, again bearing in mind my lack of musical ability.

Could it be Otherside by the Red Hot Chili Peppers?

@Mariah , The way I got the note sequence was from using the music search engine at Musicpedia. If you copy f’2 e’4 f’4 a’4 g’4. e’4 f’4 a’4 g’4. e’4 f’4 a’4 g’4. e’4 f’4 a’4 g’4 into the note sequencer and hit the play button, you will be able to hear the notes, and see them also.

@LostInParadise Very cool. Did you try midomi? It is a search engine that tries to match your singing to a known song. Very useful when you remember the tune but not enough words to do a proper google search on the lyrics. I’m afraid I don’t know myself, but midomi is my best suggestion.

I found it! I used this great site Lyrster for finding song lyrics. The song is On The Other Side by The Seekers. I did mangle the lyrics of the chorus and probably did not do a very good job of recreating the notes.
