Do you have any sinful, secret listening pleasures? If so, care to share?

Asked by Self_Consuming_Cannibal (4269points) December 30th, 2012

I’m basically asking if you have any songs that you like and are ashamed of yourself for liking them and/or are ashamed to listen to them in front of other people.

You can tell me, I promise I won’t tell <SCC crosses his fingers and laughs maniacally>

Mwhahaha!!!

Cradle of Filth.

I’m not really ashamed that I like them, it just tends to be a “secret” listening thing, because it’s not really popular music, and as a 30 year old parent who spends most of the time in a cardigan with my hair in a bun, I just don’t feel like many of my peers would relate… ha.

I’ve been listening to Journey’s Escape album for a month and a half because I’m too lazy to swap out CDs.

Barry Manilow

Self_Consuming_Cannibal's avatar

@DigitalBlue You know I really love their music, but I don’t much care for Danny Filth’s vocals. If they had an instrumental album I would definitely buy it.

Self_Consuming_Cannibal's avatar

@Supacase Barry Manilow? I’d keep that a secret too. LOL

@Self_Consuming_Cannibal seeing them live at a small venue was mind-blowing for me. He is a really small guy. I’m like 6” taller than him (and I’m a woman), for some reason that just surprised the hell out of me. I think I’d be more inclined to play it un-secretly if they made some of their albums instrumental. Samael has an album that has two discs, one with vocals, and one that is just instrumental, I always thought that was kind of brilliant.

Shippy's avatar

Nah! no secret ones, I do everything unashamedly.

Self_Consuming_Cannibal's avatar

@Shippy As expected. No shame from you. LOL

Shippy's avatar

^^ I feel like a brazen hussy, feels good!

Self_Consuming_Cannibal's avatar

@Shippy I don’t know exactly what that means but I’m sure it’s either clever or very un-PC so I will give you some lurve for it. lol

Okay, this took a lot to admit, only the wife knows of this terrible/tragic error of judgement from my past, but here goes…in the late eighties I actually bought, with real fucking money this steaming pile of shite!!
I couldn’t bring myself to reveal the name of the song in words, shame on me.

Self_Consuming_Cannibal's avatar

@ucme You know what? For being able to admit that, you are the fucking man! If we were to compare that to a real tragedy, the only thing comparable would be 9/11! LOL You derserve more than 5 lurve for admitting for that, but unfortunately that’s all I can give you with a +1 to your “Great Answer” score!

@Self_Consuming_Cannibal Thanks, but it doesn’t make me feel better, a monster has been awoken from my past & will take some getting over…pray for me :¬(

Well, my daughter is into Taylor Swift, Demi Lovato, and the Glee Cast. I have to admit, there’s some good stuff in there. I even watched Taylor Swift on VH1 Storytellers with her.
Hangs head in shame.

Lady Gaga. I started being intellectually ok with my grudging liking of some of her music when I first heard her sing, “Ga, ga, ooh la la” and it cracked me up. Artists who mock their own pop star status are alright in my book.

Not really, I have weird and eclectic taste in music anyhow that people are usually confused by. Often when people come over and I’m listening to Louis Prima and Cab Calloway they are very unsure what to think. Then they get to love it as well and make me play it all the time. It also took some getting used to for my friends to realize how much I listen to Hall and Oates but there’s no shame there baby.

I will say I would not want anyone to see me dancing to the 80s music I listen to.

Self_Consuming_Cannibal's avatar

@ucme I will not only pray for you, but I will contact the Catholic Church personally and request an exorcism be performed on you, to get rid of the demon I have awakened. LOL

ucme's avatar

@Self_Consuming_Cannibal Gawd bless you my child, together we can work through this :¬)

Self_Consuming_Cannibal's avatar

@ucme I feel a healing coming on!

Self_Consuming_Cannibal's avatar

@deni When you dance to your 80’s music does it look anything like this?

rooeytoo's avatar

I just listened to Notorious Nineteen on my iPhone, does that count??? She carries a gun, shoots people on occasion and although sort of in a relationship, now and again has a bit of a dalliance with Ranger too. I love Stephanie!!!

ucme's avatar

I’m not even looking at @downtide‘s song, bound to be Rick Astley, now that will finish me off.

downtide's avatar

@Self_Consuming_Cannibal you gave it away, spoilsport :P

Self_Consuming_Cannibal's avatar

@rooeytoo Anything counts as long it embarrasses you, it makes you feel guilty and/or you know it sucks but you like it anyways.

Self_Consuming_Cannibal's avatar

@downtide Let me see if I can edit it…

Self_Consuming_Cannibal's avatar

@ucme I know it can be painful my brother, but what @downtide has got for you is your only salvation! LOL Look into the light, dammit!!!

ucme's avatar

@Self_Consuming_Cannibal Did you say that like the little old dwarf lady from Poltergeist?
Because if you did I fear you’re now just mocking me mercilessly & we can’t be having that :¬)

Self_Consuming_Cannibal's avatar

@ucme I’ll never tell! <SCC sings>

ucme's avatar

@downtide You gave it away yourself, the “gotcha” spoke volumes.

cutiepi92's avatar

“Beauty and a Beat” and “As Long As You Love Me” both by the Bieber kid. I love those songs lmao. TELL NO ONE!

Self_Consuming_Cannibal's avatar

@cutiepi92 Your secrets safe with me. <SCC says while giggling and crossing his fingers>

rooeytoo's avatar

I think the Bieber kid has some good sounds, and I like the sound of One Direction too. OMG I must be entering my second childhood!

Sometimes I feel like Michael Bolton (Office Space) when I listen to rap. (NSFW- language)

I don’t lock my car door, but I do get less animated. ;)

tinyfaery's avatar

I love Air Supply, especially the love songs. That is all.

Coloma's avatar

@DigitalBlue Haha…my daughter is 25 and she was into Cradle of Filth when she was 15 or so. I freaked out ast the bands name, but, I like some of their music too.
Now Pig Destroyer….uh no.

I’m the oldies 70’s chick and I played an old ” Best of Bread” CD the other day. So cheesy now, but man, I took that album everywhere with me when I was 14. lol

cookieman's avatar

@tinyfaery: I’m all out of love, I’m so lost without you…

rooeytoo's avatar

Yeah I like Air Supply too. They bring back a memory of the first time I heard them. I was at a Halloween party with a current flame. We had painted a huge cardboard box to look like a box of Tide. He was wrapped up in a big sheet and we wrote “dirty laundry” on the front of him. It was pretty funny. But we wanted to dance to the music but it’s not easy when you are wearing a huge box of Tide!

wundayatta's avatar

Anyone ever heard of an album called Llama, with two Hang Drum players on it?

KNOWITALL's avatar

Anything Screamo, I got used to the grunge/rock/metal blends in the 90’s and can’t quite help myself.
