What long-stemmed flowers make good cut flowers?

Asked by 2davidc8 (10189points) March 18th, 2013

Yes, I know that a similar question has been asked recently, but I specifically would like to know about long-stemmed flowers. I would prefer annuals so that I can get an earlier “payoff”, but will consider perennials.
I live in coastal northern California.
Thanks!

I like gerbera daisies, strawflowers, minature sunflowers, mixed with baby’s breath. Lilies and Irises also work if you have the time.

Oriental lilies, but they are perennials.

The absolute best…fragrant and long-lasting…are peonies, but they are perennials and bloom only for a month or so in June.

Irises do better left in your garden.

The daisy family is good…gerbera, shasta, all the sunflowers, zinnias, bachelor’s buttons, see here for more ideas

I love fresh flowers, and I bought my home mostly because of the abundance planted. I have several kinds and colors of roses, a whole fence row of french lilacs white and purple, Lily of the Valley, miniature iris, poppies, huge iris, a snowball tree (gorgeous) and many many more.

Of course not all of these are long-stemmed but they make up for that in their smell and appearance, and lot of sizes and colors of vases are helpful

OK, thanks, everybody. I’ll look these up and give some of them a try. I’m especially interested in those that are long-lasting as cut flowers.

@2davidc8 Oriental lilies can last two weeks if you change the water daily.
