Have you seen the new commercial that looks like it came from the Matrix?

Asked by filmfann (52230points) April 24th, 2013

It is done in the style of the Matrix, with Hugo Weaving recreating his Agent Smith character. It is amusing, but it seems like a violation of the movie, somehow.
What are your thoughts about it?

Some people felt that Reloaded and Revolutions were also violations of the movie, somehow.

I’ve noticed it, and it’s quite off-putting to me. I get that they are trying to say that their technology is digital, and that it’s everywhere within the medical facility running it, but it’s Agent Smith that’s everywhere, for chrissakes! Agent Smith is not the sort of character I’d entrust with looking after my health.

I suppose they ran it by focus groups and the majority of them just thought it was funny or cute. But it creeps me out. Neo, Morpheus or Trinity would be cool. Sadly, although Neo was able to float up into the sky and hover, and use his hands and feet like WMDs, the one thing he apparently couldn’t do was make copies of himself. I guess when the Oracle identified him as “The One” that sealed it. He couldn’t be any more than one.

I saw that commercial the other day, don’t even remember what it was for, but I do remember my boyfriend and I looked at each other afterwards with a look of disgust and then proceeded to discuss how much we despised it.

@deni It’s for GE’s medical electronics. It is a kinder gentler Agent Smith, Mr. Anderson…

I would not entrust my health to Agent Smith…

I saw it. I thought it was pretty cool.

Actually it’s better than the second and third movie.
