What is your favorite spicy Italian salad dressing?

Asked by Aster (20023points) June 7th, 2013

I am crazy about Good Seasons but the price has tripled since I last bought it and it doesn’t last nearly as long as the bottled kind. I used to use Wishbone and / or Kraft. What is your favorite bottled spicy Italian?

I like Ken’s and Newmans Own… (I like the Good Seasons packet, too).

Mostly I make my own dressings, though.

If you don’t use the packet, you can make smaller amounts of your own and not feel like you’re wasting any.

I’m a big fan of all of the Annie’s brand salad dressings, especially their Shiitake Mushroom Ginger Dressing

Newman’s Tuscan Italian is my favorite bottled dressing. It might be expensive relatively speaking though? I’m not sure. I get it on sale two for a price quite often. The vinegar has a real sting to me in the good way, spices are perfect.

I also like to make my own dressing with the Good Seasons Italian package and add my own vinegar and oil. If you like it hot I don’t see why you could add some red pepper flakes. I use only Regina red wine vinegar or one of my favorite balsamic vinegars to make it.

@JLeslie I grew up in apple country. I love a good apple cider vinegar.

@Cupcake I use apple cider vinegar in a “dressing” I use for a bean salad. I also have a recipe for brisket that has apple cider vinegar and ketchup. I love that brisket, it is being at grandma’s house for me. A while back a woman I met gave me a recipe for east carolina pork barbeque, because there is no better barbeque in the whole wide world. It is made with apple cider vinegar, and I am hoping I can find that flipping recipe again after this move I just did to FL!

I make my own. My personal favourite being, balsamic vinegar, lazy chillies, basil infused olive oil and a drop of lemon juice.

Normally I’m not a vinaigrette fan, but this is some seriously good stuff.

Balsamic vinegar with a little olive oil (and maybe a pinch of garlic powder or chili flakes), served in a cute little sauce dish, is good too.

I just noticed, now, that you said Italian. Apparently I only noticed the word spicy when I answered. I’m not thrilled with any of the bottled Italian dressings, however I do like the dressing at Olive Garden. I tend to make my own at home, and I’m also a fan of the apple cider vinegar.

The quintessential gourmet store has an online store. They have recipes for making spicy basalmic vinegar dressings and are of high quality.

I like the mango, chili and lime combo. It can be used for dressing for salad and shrimp and even drink or tea.
