Any fond memories of The Moody Blues?

Asked by smudges (10754points) 1 week ago

I just found out that Mike Tinder, founding keyboard player & vocalist, passed away yesterday, April 24, 2024 at the age of 82. With so many greats having passed, there’s gotta be a hell of a band somewhere.

Lots and lots, one of my all time favorites from them is I’m just a singer in a rock and roll band.

Guys… it’s KNIGHTS in White Satin! I think….
I bought The Best Of for a guy I dated for a while.

^^ I thought it was Knights, too, but just looked it up and it’s Nights.

Love the Moody Blues! “Ride My See Saw” is another great song.

I heard that the reason they never made it into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame was because you can’t dance to their songs. And yet they let Dolly Parton in. Oh well.

I was a fan, many years ago. I hardly listen to them at all nowadays. “On the threshold of a Dream” is the LP I listened to most in the late 60’s and 70’s.

I love all their music. I can recall sitting on my bedroom floor as a kid listening all day to the Days of Future Past Album.
I am actually seeing Justin Hayward in July at a small theatre.

Breath deep the gathering gloom…....

I’ve seen them live. Love them

Had to dig out the ticket stub to find out when I saw them. I saw them live in Daytona Beach in Oct. 1986. Their light show was spectacular!

Favorite songs: Your Wildest Dreams (1986) and the 1988 sequel I know You’re Out There Somewhere

They’re one of my favorite bands.

I love the Moody Blues. A band that plays happy hour sometimes where my mother lives plays some Moody Blues and it’s always a treat. I go over there and hang with her a few times each week.

It is “Nights in White Satin… ” So what’s he complaining about???

seawulf575's avatar

I got stoned to a lot of their earlier music

@Dutchess_III See above where you wrote “Guys… it’s KNIGHTS in White Satin! I think….”

I was simply correcting that.

When you wrote “So what’s he complaining about???”, what were you talking about?

Dutchess_III's avatar

Because he was spending his nights rolling about in white satin sheets, presumably not alone!

And I appreciate the correcton @smudges.

^^^ ahhh…ok, I understand now!

btw, guess how much the ticket cost for their concert back in 1986? 16.00!!

Dutchess_III's avatar

Yeah. Even cheaper in the 70s.

He’s the last of the original band!

One of my all-time favorite groups. I liked “To Our Children’s Children’s Children”

BTW, it is “Nights”:

Nights in white satin
Never reaching the end
Letters I’ve written
Never meaning to send
Beauty I’d always missed
With these eyes before
Just what the truth is
I can’t say anymore
‘Cause I love you
Yes, I love you
Oh, how I love you
Gazing at people
Some hand in hand
Just what I’m going through
They can’t understand
Some try to tell me
Thoughts they cannot defend
Just what you want to be
You will be in the end
And I love you
Yes, I love you
Oh, how I love you
Oh, how I love you
Nights in white satin
Never reaching the end
Letters I’ve written
Never meaning to send
Beauty I’ve always missed
With these eyes before
Just what the truth is
I can’t say anymore
‘Cause I love you
Yes, I love you
Oh, how I love you
Oh, how I love you
‘Cause I love you
Yes, I love you
Oh, how I love you
Oh, how I love you
