My feet have been aching for the past few days, any idea as to why?

Asked by Mama_Cakes (11160points) June 28th, 2013

I am thin, have been spending a lot of time indoors and just recently got over West Nile. (a week ago). For the past few days my feet have ached. I am walking around barefoot indoors (like I normally do).

Soles of shoes wearing out when you wear shoes?

Mama_Cakes's avatar

That could be it.

My every day walking shoes wear out very fast and cause me achy feet which is why I thought of it.

Are your feet swollen at all?

Arches ache. They’re not swollen.

What are your west nile symptoms? body aches and muscle fatigue are common – maybe your feet are related tothat?

My arches are prone to cramping when my vitamin D is low. I would not call it an ache, but just in case you might also feel like it is cramping I thought I would mention it. Although, mine rarely happens in both feet at the same time.

Seems like it could be related to west nile, are you aching in other places in your body?

Another thought, did you recently have a pedicure. If they removed too much of the hard skin on the bottom of your feet they would get sore easily from just standing and walking.

I have a solution for aching and burning heels caused by plantar fascists. If that would be helpful, let me know.

I, too, have plantar fasciitis, and mine is manifest in the arches as well as the heels. Arch supports have done more for me than the heel cups that have helped Gail. I use the ProFoot Plantar Fasciitis inserts, and have just recently discovered Orthaheel shoes and inserts (http://www.Orthaheel.ca in Canada, or orthaheelusa.com). I got a couple pairs of their flip-flops from Lands End, and they are very comfortable.

Considering your recent illness, I agree with others that encourage you to pay attention to nutrition and hydration, as your body will deplete the musculoskeletal system of those if it needs to when battling illness.

Heat, stretching, and massage to loosen and lengthen the arches will help – there’s tons of YouTube videos with stretches.

Do they hurt more on waking in the morning, or after activity? Anti-inflammatory pain relievers, like ibuprofen, can help in the short term.

Actually, aren’t you a runner? @hearkat made me think of it suggesting plantars faciitis. Sounds like that could be it. I still recommend checking your D though. That could make things worse.
