Server Required For Website?

Asked by wheedwacker (15points) July 8th, 2007

How good of a server (bandwidth/mo, RAM, CPU, hard drive, virtual/dedicated/shared) is needed for a site that has about 500 active users. Users can upload pictures for the content they upload.

Do you have any recommendations?

Depends on the backend you're running. You may be able to get by on a 256 or 512 MB VPS... but without knowing how active your site is or how much dynamic content you have, it's hard to say.

Agree with Andrew, I have used servers ranging from Pentium II 400mhz with 512mb of ram ( for static content was fine). My present webserver has dual core Xeon processors and 4 gigs of ram. So it really just depends on what you are planning to do with it.
