Would you say that your music taste suits your personality, or are they drastically different?

Asked by rockfan (14627points) October 3rd, 2013

I like all kinds of music: indie pop, indie rock, folk rock, bluegrass, progressive metal, psychedelic rock, underground hip-hop, electronic, blues, R&B, and classical. But I’m a relatively low-key and reserved person. What about you?

I listen to everything too. It all depends on my mood. I just let that guide me. I don’t want to be boxed in to anything ever.

I can’t say I like any entire genre of music. I like a little bit of a lot of types of music.

I’d say my taste in music suits my personality pretty well.

My musical tastes are eclectic, my taste in film would also be described as eclectic, does it therefore translate that my personality is eclectic, I don’t know, would anyone care to describe an eclectic personality?

I listen to too much stuff to make a proper relation from it to my personality. Currently I’m into Pagan Metal…well currently…has been as such for three years now. But I just like Vikings, I don’t take myself for one. not really I love Industrial as well, I have been a fan for 15 years. Yet I can listen to some rap, (oh god, a metal fan who likes rap, what the fuck) folk music, pop music…eh.
Not all of my music is violent, and a lot of the Pagan Metal I listen to is joyous, upbeat and whatnot, some Although it has to be said, when I was younger I liked anything that was really loud, fast and violent. Don’t really know what that says, besides expending tastes, or being slightly bored of another. I’m quiet and kinda shy, maybe music that is a little hyper or fast helps to tip out the balance in that. I say I listen to a lot, but I rarely listen to stuff that is really slow or relaxing. unless it’s some kind of Saxon dirge music or something

Sure, in that it is widely varied and my preferences can change drastically from one day to the next.

I’ve got a huge earworm problem. Songs stay in my head for days at a time, and there’s always at least one.

This week I’ve had Jimi Hendrix – All Along the Watch tower, Opeth – The Grand Conjuration, Clutch – Space grass, an Irish folk song, and two songs from The Phantom of the Opera.

I’d say the wide variety of music I like suits my personality. Classical for my basic serious side; musical comedy for the ham in me; jazz for the rhythm in my soul; choral music for my sense of a cooperative community; folk music for may love of story telling.
Sounds like me to me.

My taste in music changes with my mood. Today I listened to Wabash Cannonball, Ghosts of Culloden, Tchaikovsky, Devil went down to Georgia and Alice Cooper’s Poison all before breakfast.

I would say that my music tastes are all over the board, which actually does suit my personality.

I have always enjoyed music that sounds good regardless of who or what it is.
Never followed the popular trends, they could be the most cheesy shallow fuckers who perform the song, I don’t care, so long as I like it.

I listen to a bit of everything, but I love metal the most. The heavier the better, especially when I’m stressed.
I also really love Eminem. Not his newer stuff so much. I prefer the old, pissed off, foul mouthed Slim Shady.

This is an example of what I find relaxing. Twisted? Probably, but I don’t care. lol

Like @Katniss I like everything but really like metal and screamo. I tend to be reserved & suppress a lot of emotion in RL, so I let it all out with my music and air drums. While driving fast.

@Katniss Nice choir piece for the church.

My music tastes are far too varied to be any indication of my personality.

Today, Deep Purple – Soldier of Fortune, and a bellydance tune one of my favourite renaissance festival bands play

@Katniss Word up bro. I also like Eminem when he’s all angry and swearing at everything. Heard some of the new stuff, doesn’t strike as much, I personally think. :/

Katniss's avatar

Ahhhhh @Symbeline. My partner in metal!!!! lol Eminems new stuff just isn’t that great. And that whole era where he had Kim and Haley up his ass?? Fuck that!!
We need to move over and make room for @KNOWITALL. She’s just as cool as we are!!

Haleth's avatar

My music taste is usually mellow, easygoing, and a little melancholy. That matches my personality pretty well.

Yeah no kidding. When I heard that stuff I was like, dude, get a fucking blog or something.

Also, ’‘moves over for @KNOWITALL.’’ We should have a party.

@Symbeline Do you listen to Arch Enemy? Is Angela Gossow the coolest chick ever, or what?

Seek's avatar

Angela is ok, but the band put out its best albums before she joined.

Katniss's avatar

@Seek_Kolinahr I’ve only been listening to the them for a few years so I’m only familiar with the Angela era stuff. Bad Katniss! lol
Now I’m going to check out their older stuff. Thank you for the tip!! :0)

Once I met a girl, she was really a sweet one, dressed like a girly girl and with a bubbly personality. One she send me the link to a YouTube video with a comment somewhat like check out the guitarist, he’s such a cutie. So I open the video and my ears started to bleed. That was post hardcore band A Day to Remember (http://mp3balance.com/mp3-search/a-day-to-remember-mp3.html play any song from the list for 30 seconds and you understand what I’m talking about). I would never believe that a girl could listen to this. And as a tiny girl myself I listen to old school hip hop music and people barely believe it so I don’t think there is any connection between music and personality.
