Has any musical artist ever sang the song, "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" without sounding like they are screaming "Santa"?

SSSSSAAAANNNNTTTTTAAAA Claus is coming to town.

There are so many bad versions. Is there a good one?

The Fred Astaire version doesn’t scream. Find one by someon who is not singing as part of a rock band,

But the music is a bit forte so it gets a bit stronger as the final chorus comes through.

I don’t recall mild-mannered Gene Autry ever shouting.

His version can be heard on YouTube. Check it out

And for that matter, Perry Como was one of the first to have a hit with it and I don’t remember Burl Ives ever screaming either. Check out their versions also.

Who on earth have you been listening to that screams it?

Drunk Dudley Moore in “Arthur”

I can’t access video or much audio at the moment, so I can’t give examples of screeching Santa songs.

There is a particularly egregious example on my C&W station rotation.

@ibstubro As one who abhors C&W, one might say that a CW version is not by a “musical artist” but merely caterwauling…

There’s virtually no such thing as Country music anymore, @zenvelo. At least that’s getting any playtime on the radio. We’ve been lamenting this for years.
Then recently they were discussing Country on NPR, and after a bit they said, “Now let’s listen to some of the country tracks. They artists are still recording country with twang, it just doesn’t get played on the radio.”

In any case, that was why I found examples of Pop, Rock and Country screeching “Santa!”

@zenvelo

Perry Como was neither a C&W singer nor “caterwauling”.

@Buttonstc, I believe @zenvelo was referring to my Lonestar link above.

Those were people I’ve listened to scream it, to answer your question, @buttonstc. Listen and weep. lol

While listening to Pandora today, they played a version from The Chairman of the Board himself, Frank Sinatra. The ultimate in cool, non-screaming.

We don’t need no yelling when he’s around.

Yes, I’ve since listened to some better, more mellow renditions.
I think the screaming is a newer thing, possibly started by The Jackson Five.
