Oh, there are wild rumors going around that they get the cells from aborted fetus and that Planned Parenthood is running some sort of abortion mill and getting paid for harvesting the stem cells or some such bullshit. I think that’s the crux of it. IDK. I know that Christian fundies are violently opposed to stem cell research because they don’t have a clue what it really is.

Go for it. But none of the benefits should go to people who have been blocking it.

Just kidding. Kinda.

I hope stem cells are from aborted babies. Might as well make something productive out of a less-than-desirable situation.

I have feelings about IVF leftovers. I do not have feelings about stem cells. They are cells. Potentially beneficial cells. Nothing more.

They aren’t from aborted babies. Stem cells. “In the 3— to 5-day-old embryo, called a blastocyst, the inner cells give rise to the entire body of the organism, including all of the many specialized cell types and organs such as the heart, lungs, skin, sperm, eggs and other tissues.”

And, in fact, they used “left over” embryos that were created for reproductive purposes, with the donor’s consent.

A 3 to 5 day old blastocyst hardly constitutes an abortion. After 5 days the embryo is useless for stem cell harvesting.

I remember reading something about getting stem cells from an umbilical cord, but I don’t think an abortion would be required for that.

….Wait…what did you mean you have “feelings about IVF leftovers.”?
