Have you ever watched a documentary that caused you to burst into tears?

I’ve watched about 4 of 7 episodes of “The Keepers” on Netflix. It’s about the horrible sexual and emotional abuses many girls in a Catholic high school suffered in the late 60s at the hands of two sadistic priests.
They were just 13, 14, 15 years old and helpless. The priests wielded their power over them in the name of God, telling them they’d go to hell if they didn’t cooperate or if they told any one. Hearing the stories finally caused me to just burst into tears.

One girl finally made the decision to go to confession because she had been molested by an uncle many years earlier and she felt so guilty. She couldn’t stand the guilt and she finally went to confession.
The priest listened, then wanted to see her face and know her name. The child thought, “Wow. What I did must have been really bad for him to want to see my face.”
He then told her she needed therapy. You can guess what that “therapy” consisted of.
He once told her that she wasn’t working hard enough on her therapy and she’d never be forgiven by God, would never go to heaven, if she didn’t work harder at it.
He ended every session by imprinting on her what a useless, disgusting whore she was.

There were so many other, very painful stories.

One nun finally realized what was happening, and tried to intervene. She was murdered. Her body was found at a dump. The priest took one of the girls to see the body, and told her “That’s what happens to people who talk about things they shouldn’t talk about.” It was a warning. Of course she never talked. Until now, 45 years later.

I just want to murder someone myself.

Some Michael Moore documentaries give me a chuckle.

Back in 1992, I watched a documentary about children being used to work the fields that processed sugarcane for S&H company. It was devastating to watch this happening and not being able to help get them out of that situation. Frustrating so much so, that i wrote a letter to the TV station trying to get information. Boycotted S&H sugar for life and told anyone who would listen about the documentary.

Plenty. But, holy hell, why did you even watch that thing? I’d be sick from the first frame.

Recently watched a documentary in which it showed how the farm animals were being treated very badly. Didn’t cry but felt really sad for them.

@anniereborn It’s not a kiddie porn show. The main point of the film is the 45 years it’s taking to bring them down (if they’re still alive.) 3 former students, in their 60’s now, are not letting it go. Last episode was showing cover ups by the Baltimore prosecutor. The detective is saying that anything at all to do with priests gets / got swept under the rug by that prosecutor. I guess she’s a Catholic.
So now they’re on the hunt for evidence that not even the prosecutor can’t blow off.

It’s heart breaking because the girls were so all alone. Nobody even knew such a thing existed, or if they did know they hid from it. The girls had no one to talk to and were convinced that it was their own fault.

@Dutchess_III Oh, for crying out loud, I wasn’t suggesting that. It still sounds very disturbing.

It is. Now I want to find out what happened in the end. They’re in the investigative process now.

Yes. I watched one a few years back about the sex trade of minors in some south asian countries and India. Seeing those little girls about 8 years old out in the street for men to do what they want to them, made my stomach turn. I found myself wishing for God would just be done with the world and wipe us all out.

Yep. Blood Brothers.

What was that about @Mama_Cakes, and more importantly…WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN! Good to see you!!

The son of a bitch priest died of insanity in his early 60’s. Good. Now they’re just having to fight the shit that women have to face when sexual abuse is involved. Pretty much like a second rape.
