Does the ketogenic diet work and what are some easy meals?

Asked by MooCows (3216points) October 27th, 2017

I am hearing alot about fat replacing carbs
in a diet to keep you from getting hungry
and that makes you eat less and loose weight.
What kind of meal would this be?

No. They don’t work.

Please discuss any server change in diet with your regular doctor.

I tried paleo/keto once, and it killed my gallbladder. My family history put me at risk, yes, but i lost mine 20 years earlier than my mother and aunt did.

All diets – whether they are called diets, eating plans or lifestyle changes – work in the short-term. Approximately 95% of people who lose a significant amount of weight regain what they lost, and sometimes add extra pounds, within 5 years.

Instead of looking for diets, eat well as often as you can and move your body to the best of your ability in a way that makes you happy. Aim for doing the best that you can for yourself. Remember, thin does not equal healthy any more than fat equals unhealthy.

Check with your doctor before you do anything strenuous, especially if you haven’t been active.

I wouldn’t recommend this diet. This is from Harvard.

Developing a healthier lifestyle overall is a better way to go. Eat more veggies. Eat less processed foods. Learn about healthy eating. Eat less food in general. Exercise more, and on a regular basis. Cut out the stress. Drink more water. Be more deliberate with everything in your life. Don’t give in to fad diets. Walk away from junk food, clear it out of your home, and treat it like metal or wood or plastic in your life (things you don’t eat, but that exist, and are useful, in everyday life).

My boss did a ketogenic diet for a few months. Lost a lot of weight the first month. He missed pasta and cake too much so stopped doing the diet. His weight came back.

Can you live without your favorite carbs? Better to do what @Kardamom says.

It has worked for a lot of people but you have to adapt to the lifestyle and check with a doctor first to make sure your body can handle the no carb intake
