Would life be better as a god or as a demigod?

I lean towards demigod – less power, sure, but also less responsibility.

Do you mean being (1) the God of Jews, Christians and Muslims, or (2) like George Burns/Bruce Almighty, or like (3) the Greek, Roman and Norse Gods, or (4) the less definable gods such as the Outer or Elder Gods or the Great Old Ones of H.P. Lovecraft, or (5) something with near-invincible powers such as Jeanie or Samantha?

I’d like to be a demigod like Mork was on Mork’s original appearance on Happy Days when he terrorized Richie Cunningham—or some of the powerful weirdos on Star Trek the Original Series who had invincible powers—or, then again, the older I get, maybe I would like to settle down and be a George Burns as God or the Devil…

Being a scary but harmless boogieman that scares children sounds like fun. Hide in the closet and say, “wubba wubba wubba wubba” and the child screams, parent enters the room, consoles the child, looks in closet, I’m nowhere to be seen. Then, when the parent is gone and all is well, I’m back in the closet, going, “wubba wubba wubba wubba wubba wubba wubba”

It really depends on the cosmology/universe/world and the other gods and their ideas and powers and all that that goes along with it, as well as, as @Yellowdog mentioned, what you mean by god versus demigod.

And, since you’re talking about changing from a 21st Century mortal human into a god or demigod, well presumably any such being/principle/concept/force-of-nature/aspect-of-existence/whatever-you-think-a-god-is would have its own perspective, personality, values, ideas, likes, dislikes, passions, etc., which would transform the value system used to make the choice.

Like if I were a pig, I’d probably LOVE being given rotten human food. So one might think to consider which god or demigod seems to be enjoying their own existence most.

Or, some completely different consideration. Seems like an unanswerable philosophical overly-broad question as written. I don’t know what you mean.

Agree with Zaku—Really, more clarification is needed between a god and a demigod.

As a Christian and Aristotilian (most of us think like Greeks)—there is ONE supreme being who is all-knowing and well beyond human comprehension who created all space and time and everything within—but it is conceivable may visit earth in some form or incarnation while remaining “God.” (AKA George Burns, or even Jesus Christ for that matter). To me, everything else is a demigod.

Also, many people’s ideas about God are more and more vague. Most people;s idea of God is more like a ‘group mind’ that is comprised of everyone of a similar group, and whom controls the minds of them all, a.k.a. an Egregore.

Good question. Lets have some discussion, and please folks, we KNOW we are not trying to prove or disprove the existence of any such entity

depends on the power set.
For example, life as a Q would be pretty sweet, when you can alter reality at will.
On the other hand, life as the christian god would be horrible, since you are imprisoned on a barren rock planet at the centre of the galaxy, waiting for captain Kirk to bring you a starship.

I’d rather live my life as a Queen.

Being a demigod isn’t much fun. They are mortal and will age and die. Like superheroes in comics they have limited special powers which they feel obliged to use to benefit humanity. There is always a baby about to be hit by a speeding train. If you can help you can’t avoid the responsibility. It might be better to be a demon though the artist considered this demon as “a spirit, not so much evil as suffering and sorrowing, but in all that a powerful spirit… a majestic spirit.”

I guess I’d prefer to be a god. If I could help people. It might get old fast though.

I’d probably abuse the power. Giant yacht. Crewed by hot bisexual red headed, and some blonde girls. Secret headquarters in a volcano. Pet dragon. Health insurance…..
