Do you know a back pain patient who has done this as advertised?

Asked by Aster (20023points) May 4th, 2018

On tv it says, ” I went to Laser Spine Institute, had the procedure and walked out a changed man.” Know anyone like that?
Then they say it only “needed a bandaid for the one inch incision.” So happens that a Half Inch incision, when it goes into a spine can be a life or death matter.

My daughter has severe back pain. She’s disabled. And yes. That’s a thing, but it couldn’t be tried in her case. :(

Depending upon diagnosis, and a few other factors. If the suffering is great, I would try the procedure. Results surely vary, and the patient’s weight, overall health, and the skill of the surgeon in diagnosing, and coming up with the right plan will be important.

I’m not an expert in this, but it is my understanding that back surgery is generally a last resort when all other conservative therapies have failed. My fiancé had a microlaminectomy after a car accident. It made a huge improvement in her quality of life, but her back will never be the same as it was before the accident. I would be weary of any doctor promoting back surgery as a first option, instead of a last option, though I am admittedly unfamiliar with this particular treatment. I would certainly get a second option from an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in backs or a neurologist before pursuing back surgery.

Thanks and I agree @gorillapaws . I personally don’t have back problems but lots of friends do and they get steroid shots.
