Is it normal to feel fine after a night of heavy drinking?

Asked by Anaphase (768points) August 23rd, 2008

Every time I’ve had a little too much to drink I always wake up early (usually around 7–8 am) and feel great, but all of my buddies sleep late into afternoon and always have hangovers. Does this happen to anyone else? I just find it a bit strange.

I’ve never had a hangover. Maybe it depends on what you drank or something? I don’t know. But yeah, after the night that I drank the most I’ve ever drunk I woke up early and did all the housework cause I felt great. Weird!

@shubbery: Well, I guess we can consider ourselves lucky!

Yes indeed haha I am grateful. Especially now I’ve started working on Sundays…. hehe :P
Do you drink other stuff in between? Do you drink water afterwards, before you go to bed? I mean I don’t think I did but maybe, because apparently that helps in preventing hangovers.

No hangovers for me either. I do occasionally sleep late, but I do that anyways. I don’t have any secrets. I just drink however much of whatever and then the next day, I’m set to jet.

In college I never got hangovers. Now I feel like I’ve overdone it at 2 beers!

Keep it up; it’s a skill- if you don’t use it, you lose it! :)

@ schenectady: if you use it, you lose brain cells…

@yannick: Cells reproduce, but the time we have to party in this life is limited. When I was young I could wake and work after a night out. Now, I can wake and work after a night out, but the night has to end at 9:00 pm.

The older you get the harder it is to get back on that horse that threw ya! I never had hangovers when I was younger. Now I try to be a little more careful.

… I should have followed my own advice. A fewcweeks ago I was in New Orleans and shot tequilla with my brother in law’s Mexican girlfriend. I won! She got suck that night, but it was holy he’ll for me the next morning! Wow my head hurt!

Brain cells are one of the only cells that do not reproduce =/

I think it depends on alot of factors, like if you had anything to eat during the night, how hydrated you are, what you drank, etc. Sometimes I got hangovers and sometimes I didnt, I don’t drink much anymore. When I do, I only have 2 or 3, so I seldom get hungover. Ahh to be young and bullet proof!!

A eambos: There are also so many you couldn’t use and abuse them all if you tried. And, the jury is still out on whether or not the particular cells damaged do or do not reproduce. Give me a sec and I’ll find a link. One of a few links that show that it is possible that brain cells do reproduce. I was told by a professor once that the brain can be likened to the ocean: It is so vast and so difficult to explore that we will never really know it’s secrets in our lifetime. I tend to not listen to the nay-bobs of negativity. I listen to what my body tells me.

I’ve never really had a hangover either (after beer, shots, hard liquor, anything). I feel bad for my friends when they wake up with one cause they ask me how I feel and I’m like “I feel fine.” I do sleep in a bit after a night of drinking, but I sleep in anyway so I don’t think that sleeping in has to do with the alcohol.

Anaphase's avatar

@shubbery: Yeah, it probably has to do with the fact that I constantly drink water. I never thought of that.

I’ve woken up tipsy. Is that a hangover? I don’t feel icky, just drunk.

After drinking home brewed beer it does because of the high yeast content which is high in B 12

shrubbery's avatar

Urgh. I take it back. I take it all back! I feel like I’m going to throw up…. I even drank loads of water and bleugh…. I now know what it feels like to be hungover.

yannick's avatar

Haha… @ shrubbery: I DID throw up… Got home at 11 and didn’t get out of bed ‘til about 5:30… boy oh boy. Worst. Day. Ever…

Haha lesson learnt?
