In your opinion, does Trump seem to have some sort of dementia?

Asked by Dutchess_III (46813points) April 24th, 2019

His speeches are so disjointed and rambling. Is it because he feels free to say whatever blatherment pops into his head because that’s what he’s always done, or do you think he has some declining mental impairment?

Your opinion is welcome.

Also, I did a quick search to see if this, or something similar, had been asked before, but I didn’t find anything. Doesn’t mean it hasn’t, I just didn’t see it.

I don’t have a medical degree, so I can’t say. However, I saw a very old interview with him and I was shocked at how well spoken he was. He actually spoke on a college level, used multiple syllable words and was not rude.
Whatever is going on with him, he has changed dramatically in his later years. And it’s not for the better.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

It sure would seem that way, but his base still loves him to death.

I have also looked through old interviews. I made a comment that until he hit about 40 years old he was as normal as anyone else. He did speak well. Then. Now, he just rambles.

“My whole life has been heat. I like heat, in a certain way.”

“Remember two things. Number one, I said, we’re going to be saying Christmas again. And, number two, I said I was going to give you a Christmas present.”

“And nobody knows what a community college is.”

“Even one of them recently said that President Trump made promises, but he’s kept many more promises. I mean, far more than I made.”

Let’s put it this way. Were it announced that he suffers from dementia most of us would be relieved to have an explanation. His supporters wouldn’t believe such a thing were Jesus himself to confirm the diagnosis on the 6 o’clock news. There are people, an awful lot of people who watch Trump’s antics right alongside you, yet become upset when you suggest that the fool is acting crazy. The media and liberals are responsible for his bad press. It isn’t that his lunacy is a virtual constant. The problem is that liberals and their media notice it, then rub it in. Trump bribes a hooker? Oh the media is at it again. It would be merciful if the problem could be limited to a diagnosis of dementia. But what possible benefit is there to witnessing the man then denying that somethin ain’t right.

I’m not sure. When he was running for president he sounded like himself initially in the debates and interviews. Then, he seemed to notice that people were latching onto some of the crazy shit he says. Actually, we can go back to the whole birther thing. So, what I mean is, I think he always had a rough edge, and NYer-ness about him, which is straight from the hip, and he had said years ago that the republicans run better campaigns, and convince people of things he would not think possible. Either he studied that, or just took to it naturally, I don’t know. Or, maybe he has lost some of his faculties? I think it is anyone’s guess.

Probably, the people closest to him know if he really has changed or not. I picture him saying horrible things, and then afterwards going behind closed doors and saying to his kids or closest friends, “can you believe the garbage these people are willing to believe?”

Trump takes pride in being an ignorant man. He never reads books and has never tried to become a better person. He has spent his entire life doing deals and thinking up schemes to get even richer. He could get dementia and I wouldn’t even notice.

JLeslie's avatar

@flutherother If you watch old interviews of him, he was fairly pensive about various topics. I agree he doesn’t study the topics, but he was fairly observant, concerned, and able to carry on a conversation back in the day.

I can’t stand an ugly American. Dementia or no dementia.

I met a 90 year old guy years ago who whenever Obama was mentioned would start yelling, cussing, cursing and ranting on how evil Obama was for taking his social security etc. etc. etc.

In his house there were piles of letters from conservative organizations informing him of the harmful and dangerous things Obama were doing to seniors like him.

Not sure if he has dementia but one good thing about him is that when someone tries to calmly explain to him Obama’s position he stops ranting and actually listens.

JLeslie's avatar

@mazingerz88 Trump calmly listens? Is that who were talking about at the end?

Dutchess_III's avatar

No, the 90 year old man he was talking about listens calmly.

Ok. I wasn’t sure.

Nah, I think he’s just really radical and stubborn. Money usually causes dementia, but not the medical type. That’s just my opinion.

Your question brings up another thought worthy of a question. Why doesn’t the House hold hearings on Trump’s sanity?

Aster's avatar

Trump will never be examined for sanity. He’s just an ego maniac.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I wonder if, going forward, there will be some sort of IQ and sanity test, and some test over the fundamental workings of our government. trump didn’t even understand that.

Probably not. There is apparently a rising movement advocating the elimination of mental impairment as a legitimate reason for disputing a candidate’s fitness for office. Calling Trump crazy stigmatizes the mentally ill!

Trump is not crazy . He is an ego maniac with narcissism. Those are types of personality disorders=not signs of insanity. Other POTUS may have been guilty of having large egos; it’s not a rarity.

Dutchess_III's avatar

To even be crazy enough to think you can be president, you’d have to have an ego the size of Texas. That’s normal.
Trump’s issue is beyond that. He’s losing words, he’s rambling nonsensically.
And also, yes. He is crazy.

stanleybmanly's avatar

His big head isn’t the problem. It’s the fact that it’s big and empty that is particularly irritating. And then you toss in that malevolent mean streak and insufferable pettiness and there remains little leeway for sympathy or tolerance of his glaring disabilities. He is crude and crass to distraction, the embodiment of ill mannered dishonesty, flawed judgement and bad temperament. He is once again a disgrace to his office, the perpetual nightmare of embarrassment to his country and singularly authentic only as the model for a disgusting human being.

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

The worse Trump is the better a Republican he is. After all the Republican party belives that government is the problem. He is proving the point.
Democrats belive in political correctness and having highly educated leaders. They think that goverment is the solution.
