Is there a product out there to seal small scrapes and cuts?

Asked by lucillelucillelucille (34325points) January 15th, 2020

I’ve used Super glue to close cuts before but I need something I can use to cover a scrape injury on my hand. I can’t use gloves to work, so that’s out.
Any suggestions?

They make medical glue. It’s like super glue, only it’s medical glue. Can you cover it with a Bandaid?

@Dutchess_III- No, it will come off when I throw clay.

What do you do and who are you throwing clay at?

Petroleum jelly, smear that shit on & it will moisten the wound while at the same time toughening the injury site. No scab will form meaning it will heal quicker too.

@Dutchess_III -Making pots
@ucme – It probably won’t stand up to the spinning wheel but it can hurt to try. XD

@lucillelucillelucille Haha, grease the wheels baby! lol

Can you share some pictures of your work? I love ceramics

Vaseline?

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@rebbel -That’s what ucme suggested. I have a feeling it won’t last long.

Yeah clogman, pay attention in class :D

Could you wear the skin tight gloves that doctors use when they do surgery?

That’s some nice stuff @lucillelucillelucille!

@Dutchess_III -Thanks
I’ve tried and failed with the gloves.

I’m out of ideas. Maybe you could miss work for a couple of days while it heals?

Have you ever tried Liquid Bandage??? It seals small cuts, but I’ve never tried it on a scrape. It keeps dirt out, it breathes, & won’t come off unless you wash it with soap & water. NO clue what effect the clay would have on it, but might be worth a looksie!!!

@LadyMarissa & @seawulf575 -Thanks! i will try this out.)

That’s what I was talking about. Just couldn’t remember what it was called.

@lucillelucillelucille I use it all the time. New Skin was the original, but there are many knockoffs available now. I’ve even seen a spray version so you won’t even need to touch the sore spot. Maybe I should also warn you that there’ a good possibility that it will sting on contact, but the sting doesn’t last forever!!!

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@LadyMarissa -I’ve superglued cuts together before and it does sting but it’s not too bad. I wonder how well this stuff will hold up to friction from the potter’s wheel
It can’t hurt to try this :)

@lucillelucillelucille I have NO clue as I’ve never worked on potter’s wheel. I can tell you that everything seems to heal twice as fast when I use the liquid bandage over a band-aid. Since having my stroke, I can’t put a band-aid on my good hand with the bad one; however, I can paint the liquid stuff on by holding the cap in my teeth. I cut my thumb really deep & couldn’t get it to stop bleeding until I put some New Skin on it. It probably needed a stitch, but the NS stopped the bleeding, held it together & today you can’t tell it was ever sliced open!!! It’s not outrageously expensive either so you won’t break the bank to discover it doesn’t work well with your passion. At best…it will work!!!

Dermabond

I am not a doctor, this is not medical advice.

New Skin liquid bandage. It has a brush to apply. I have used it many times. I works well for minor scrapes.
