What would be a good release agent for casting a fish in plaster?

Asked by lucillelucillelucille (34325points) January 27th, 2020

I want to make a mold from a decent sized fish (10”-15”) and will use clay to fill any undercuts so that won’t be an issue.
What would work well as a release agent?

Silicone spray?
Baking spray?

I used Vaseline to make a plaster paw print of my dog. Worked pretty well.

@rebbel _Could you try it first? Thank you. :)
@chyna -Did you have to hold the dog’s paw in the plaster very long?

It’s been a long time, but I can’t imagine that she held still for more than a few minutes.

@chyna -I have a puppy print from one of my dogs but I did it with clay so no troubles.

A vegetable cooking spray would be best. Get the fish good and dry first…
