Where would you be right now if you weren't sheltering in place?

Asked by Jeruba (55830points) April 12th, 2020

It’s a little past noon on Easter Sunday, PDT.

As usual for me, I’d be right here where I am, at home, and not planning to go anyplace. That’s my preference anytime I think a lot of people are going to be out and about.

For instance, I never leave my house at all on the day after Thanksgiving or the day after Christmas.

But being told to stay in makes it different. Makes me want to go out.

Where would you be?

Same as you, right here! I don’t celebrate Easter, and most weekends I prefer not to be in crowds.
And, like you, knowing that I have to stay home makes me want to go out. :-)

It’s a quarter after nine in the evening here & this, (at home) is where I’d have been regardless.
Snuggled up on the sofa with wife & puppy, home comforts are never lost on me.

Nothing different for me.

I would be hiking the trails except that now the bears are coming out of hibernation and no

one on the trails would make me a target..so will wait.

The other night I went out to photograph the pink super moon of which we didn’t see here

much..but took photographs of the lonely streets surrounded by darkness and gleaming

street lights…a totally different perspective which was entertaining and awesome to witness.

Even though I didn’t get the picture of the moon as it was is was hidden by clouds then, but

It turned out to be an enlightening nighttime experience anyways.

So if one is isolated go out by yourself if its safe in your area photograph the scenes as it is now.

It was an awesome experience and I was happy that I went out that night as it was a

peaceful feeling as well.

We’d probably be at my sister’s or one of my brother’s homes.

Here at home. Although last year I had gone to the city (NYC is the city) for a seder the night before Easter and stayed overnight at a hotel. I did go to see the Easter Parade on 5th Avenue for the first time in my life. It was lots of fun but I probably won’t do it again.

Can’t know for sure. I might be at home, or out to dinner, or meeting up with friends to go dancing. One of those three.

Turkey dinner at daughter and SIL with three grandsons. She send us home with leftovers, always the dark meat which okay with my wife and myself.

It depends on the weather. Rainy like today? Indoors sitting on the couch watching movies or television shows. I’m bingeing Island Hunters right now while my husband is making chili. Later we’ll get caught up on WestWorld.

Sunny and/or dry outside? I’d walk to the lake.

This is a typical day for me when I’m not working, so nothing has changed just because it’s Easter.

The only thing that has changed for me is that I am more cautious of other people, my distances to them, and my trips outside (outside of my work, which continues unabated).

We’re getting out. Mainly we drive around our park and look at the ducks and geese, or drive around the lake waving at campers.

I would be right here doing the same thing as now .

Typically on a Sunday, we’re invited to friends’ for dinner. They’re like family to us. Usually we’re there from around 6 to around 9 or so.

On Easter Sunday, I usually spend it with my family. My mom died a few years ago and she was the hub of the family, the cook, the hostess. Without her around, the rest of us are not as glued to each other and so there are not really any traditions any more. Last Easter, we went to my sister’s in the city (like @Janbb, the city to me is NYC), and then we walked to a restaurant. There were five of us. It was very pleasant, but not as joyous as it used to be at my mom’s. This Easter, today, we didn’t see any family due to the virus and my sister being in another state to escape NYC. We’re kind of in flux with my mom not being here any more, and then with the virus, it’s just kind of a weird feeling today. Plus I haven’t been to work in a few weeks, which is great and fine but just feels extra weird.

Thinking about it further, I realize that every Sunday night I’m kind of stressed out. Not that I dislike my job, because I don’t, but stressed out about having to get to sleep by a certain time, and needing to sleep well (which I don’t always get to bed promptly and don’t always sleep well), and then the morning wake up, get ready and commute is stressful. I have about a 45 minute ride to work, and there are a lot of commuters on the road. Tomorrow, for example, a big rain storm is coming. I know when I have to commute, I’m always thinking that these storms are there just in time for the morning commute.

It’s so nice now to not have to deal with that at all.

Probably having Easter dinner at my sister’s house. I miss her :(
ETA: Okay, well it’s 1AM now, so I would probably be right where I am, doing what I am doing.

filmfann's avatar

Probably in a casino on the way home from seeing the grandkids.

Right now it’s Monday morning, so I’d be at work… which on Monday involves walking farm dogs for a few hours and it’s currently cold and raining, so I mean I’m cool with being in my living room instead.

jca2's avatar

I used to get annoyed every time there was bad weather for the Monday morning commute. The Monday morning commute is bad enough, between the potential for lots of traffic combined with being tired and trying to get back into the swing of the routine. Today, it’s a wind and rain storm and I’m feeling very grateful to not have to have left the house.
