Does anyone like Maltese dogs?

Asked by Goldenfish (64points) October 15th, 2020

Maltese dogs in question are similar like cats and talk lot, not like barking they make strange noises too. But they have unique take on life.
Keeping them combed and trimmed might be your only way manage this type of dog.

45% of time they keep their owners up doing their nightly excursions outside to sniff the latest smell. Its like who trained who and raising a child literally. Sometimes you can win and make them see their are other things to worried about.

Short and stalk size and their cute paws might allure you but way they whine might make you keep coming back. I quite attached to sniffing sound, its very interesting…it reminds me of microphone going in reverse and charcoal eyes make snuggle animal because he so cute.

Not me. I find them unattractive. But some people do.

I like them and think they’re adorable. have never owned one; I hear they are hard to house train. All dogs in my experience like sniff walking. As far as keeping you out at night, that’s a matter of training.

My daughter Sarah’s teacher for first and second grade brought hers to class a couple times a week, and my daughter adored “Gidget”.

My ex bought a Maltese from a breeder; unfortunately, the puppy had a heart defect from over breeding. Sarah would still like to get one. I have told her to get a puppy, but that it would be hers to care for, not mine. She wants me to have a doggie she can visit but not have to care for.

@zenvelo If you get a doggie, I’ll visit it!

Yes, I know one who is darling. As you say, reminds me of a cat, sort of. A bit yippy, but sweet. Never lived with one, but definitely up there on my list of sweetest dogs I’ve known.

I love dogs, and a couple of friends have Maltese doggos. I love them.

They are super cute. They are not anything like cats though. At least none that I have met.

My former dog was a Maltese. Maltese are no different than any dog. It’s how you raise it. Actually my Maltese could get yappy when he heard a noise but he was generally very quiet. We didn’t even know that he had a displaced hip until he yelped one day when we went to pick him up. Everyone believes that small dogs are very yappy. I have raised two small dogs that are pretty quiet. My second dog is not a Maltese but she’s a chihuahua mix. My first dog hated and loved to be groomed. He wasn’t a fan of bathing but he loved getting blown dried and combed and his hair trimmed. Maltese are actually easy to care for if people don’t rub their fur up and down. That’s how they get knots. I kept my maltese hair pretty long in the winter and shorter in the summer. He thought he was a big dog in a tiny body but he did have a huge personality. After grooming he would go to family members and trot around in front in a circle to show his nice coat. I use to say he was a show dog in a prior life. He was friendly and sweet. Everyone who met him eventually fell in love with him even if they didn’t like dogs. Though I agree my maltese was almost cat like in that he would decide who he liked and who he didn’t. And if he didn’t like or trust you, he would go away. My second dog reminded me of Odie in Garfield at first. Now she’s super attentive to people who give her attention and ignores those who don’t.

But to answer your question, I love Maltese. I didn’t get a second one after my first one passed away because I felt it would feel like I was replacing him and he was a one of a kind dog.

I kept Shio the Maltese, haircut, puppy short because then you rub him and wouldn’t feel like there required to itch so much he didn’t like it long either. Long meant he be attacked by comb and bath often and wouldn’t get to play with other friend “dirt” he loved the that soft mud too but. We had enclose him away or he sniff anything in close approximately.
Birds, mice, and cats oh my were not permitted enter Shio territory.
How could anyone dislike Shio he had cute smile and charcoal eye appearance he was worthy snuggle and hug love. I found fastest way clean Shio was use Oregano herb bath seems oregano herb cleans up well and makes dirt come away faster. Makes him smell very good. I think if we had mint even better.

Feeding shio got harder though he very particular towards certain food, I try to get him eat vegetables, currently dislikes carrots, green beans if they are boiled, it they saute in butter or oil he likes them. Have to add some sort herb to it. He eat it no question. I learned as long main dish aka protein is taken care of I don’t have feed him vegetable part I have take care on my own. Wet food or fresh meat protein has made in certain way.

Shio is normally quiet and super protective, barks only when intruder: mailman, delivery person, service person shows up, neighbor drops by, or family member drops by too.

Shio usually trying catch up with nap activities…and have his sleep counted. If we take him for walk it can’t be on hot day or day where too cold and windy because we normally see another loose dog, Our close neighbor recently acquired a saint Bernard and border collie, one large and medium sized dog which I am sure if got out it would harm shio in seconds. But that besides the point he made point of his reasoning sending his dog to my dog. Which in conclusion made me feel Shio can’t go outside because awful neighbor.

My family likes stroke “Shio” when they are here, when My parents want to pet him they should understand there limitation of stroking him so much. I don’t even pet him so much only if wants it.
Shio is named after Salt, while originally he called Shiro that means white. he dislikes that name because to him that means Clean. He understands name meaning. He got dirty everyday when we called him Shiro so I called shio and he stopped and stayed white little bit dirty…it was quite funny day. He actually sat and let me shook his paw. he even did mass of tricks…so he saying I am very intelligent.

He plays soccer too and makes me think what else get him when we get toys that soccer ball I want to get him 9.99 other kind ball one you want to get for Maltese lights up is cat toy and has lights and makes noises stuff how come they don’t make for dogs they have retriever brand which make me feel only golden retriever dog is only dog toy manufactured for whole world what about small dog breed toy?

Maltese dogs are animals want to make for. They kind like cats sized what toys do I get for him that branches on intelligence I don’t like getting squeaker because he bored of it, Shio prefer blankets and pillows. versus beds I can’t get him like pet bed I tried one time and just tried destroy it because it didn’t keep him warm, hard to wash it and spilled his food.
