In Super Mario for (NES) does the position that Mario points change what direction a mushroom power up is released?

I noticed it 30 years ago and I forgot.

No. In Super Mario Bros, mushrooms always go right when activated. I believe SMB3 was the first time they used the side of the box direction mechanic.
