Percentage-wise, how many firefighters are also arsonists, creating their own fires to fight?

Asked by ragingloli (51967points) January 19th, 2022

Inspired by the fact that at least 40% of cops are wife-beaters.

Related to this, how many doctors intentionally disseminate diseases among the population, to ensure their own job security?

I don’t know if there is a study on it as many are not identified, however years ago in a major city a neighbor that was a Fire Fighter , was found to case minor fires like putting dumptsters on Fire to alleviate his bordom after his wife left him.
I suppose it happens more often than not as years later it was thought or determined that unemployed Fire Fighters started bush fires to get employment.

There was a recent TV documentary about a guy in California who was an arson investigator but in his spare time set fires – dozens and dozens of them.

He was caught for stupid reasons – he was observed buying matches and cigarettes, and all his colleagues knew he didn’t smoke, and he made no effort to avoid being seen (used his personal car).

Now, tha’ts one example. I am sure it happens, but my guess is not very often.

Can you please provide link or background on your statement:
“Inspired by the fact that at least 40% of cops are wife-beaters”.

I also hear that many firefighters also place cats in trees.

It probably happens but I’d bet it is a small minority. No reason to give these people a black eye because of a few bad apples. I’m are you have a few whack jobs in every profession. Unfortunately.

@ragingloli Thank you for the link. Please note that all of this is a bit stale and from 1991 & 1992.
The statement in you OP is wrong and misleading when you state “Inspired by the fact that at least 40% of cops are wife-beaters.”

If you read the details of the references it is based on a Hearing before the the Select Committee on Children, Youth, and Families. House of Representatives, One Hundred Second Congress, First Session.
It reads: “40 percent of the officers stated that in the last six months prior to
the survey they had gotten out of control.” While this is concerning, “Out of Control is not “wife-beaters”.
The second reference article states:“Although the relationship between police stress and family functioning has been noted in numerous clinical observations”, “there is little empirical data available.”

This is a prime example of not fact checking, making leaps of statements and sensationalizing.

What was your intent of adding that statement?

@Forever_Free The intent was “fuck the police”, obviously.
