I like the idea of America making its own computer chips.

Biden made a nice move to get Repubs to cheer for maintaining SS and Medicare.

Pointless, like all contemporary State of the Union addresses.

Too long and somewhat boring. Nothing more than expected, really.
The Republican response was a joke. Just so much Trump-speak.

@kritiper I thought the same about the Republican response. She came right out from the start being very negative. Biden didn’t come right out attacking Republicans, and he talked about places we can all work together. Almost everything is hate of the other side now. It’s awful.

Biden was light, playful, combatful, and coherent: everything my nephews swear he isn’t.

@filmfann In the Republican response Sarah Huckabee mentioned worshipping false idols. Do you think that was about Biden being Catholic? What was that secret code phrase referring to? I thought you might know since you are one of our more religious jellies.

I don’t watch State of the Union speeches anymore. They’re all political posturing with little to no meaning. I used to watch them all the time. Not one mattered at all. I’ll read some of the takeaways the day after. Sounds like Ol’ Joe is planning on running again despite the party begging him not to.

I saw on the news, there was a poll where they said the majority of Dems don’t want Joe to run again. If the Dems (which is my party) want to win, they must know they can’t have Joe.

A friend told me since Joe is the head of the Dem party, it’s totally up to him and nobody can stop him.

Does anybody know if he can be stopped? I am not asking rhetorically, it’s a serious question.

JLeslie's avatar

@jca2 I think he probably can be pursued not to run. If he runs his VP pick will really matter now more than ever. It has to be someone who people would vote for over the Republican for president.

jca2's avatar

@JLeslie My friend was saying “oh no, if he wants to run, nobody can stop him!” but I think he can be pursuaded not to run and maybe they’ll tell him he won’t be endorsed by unions and stuff because the majority of people don’t want him.

JLeslie's avatar

Persuaded not pursued. Thanks for reusing the word to help make that clear.

@JLeslie I am not sure what she is referring to, but since she is schooled in the Baptist church, as am I, I assume she is talking about the Virgin Mary, the Saints, the Pope, and other Catholic figures.
She also talked about Democrats forcing others to salute other flags. Is she talking about the rainbow flag? How does she feel about the Confederate flag?
She is wrong in so many ways it is hard to guess what her bird brain is thinking about.

JLeslie's avatar

@filmfann That’s exactly what I was guessing, but I wasn’t sure if I was right. It’s so offensive and your point about the flags, not only the confederate flag, but what about the blue strip flag for the police (supposedly the police). No one is saluting the rainbow flag like a loyalty to a country, they twist everything and don’t see themselves in the mirror.

They would call Mitt Romney a cult member and still worship Trump. I mean WTH? Mitt actually practices his religion, Christ is his savior, and he has a moral compass. Nancy Pelosi and Biden both seem strong in their faith in God.

I liked it better when I was young and clueless about politics and religion. It’s all so upsetting.

I tell my Catholic friends who support Trump that they really are not part of the ”group.” They don’t understand. They don’t seem to know the history of the KKK.

filmfann's avatar

@JLeslie Amen to that!

RocketGuy's avatar

I wonder how they can support Trump if he violated many of the 10 Commandments.

JLeslie's avatar

@RocketGuy The way I understand it they don’t care as long as he is delivering what they want. Even an atheist sinner can bring on the second coming in their mind. Something like that.

I only watched this clip of it
I am not sure if that is appropriate for a president to say during a public speech.
