Does your state have laws that regulate hospital mergers?

Asked by Flavio (1111points) October 21st, 2008

If so, what is your state, what is the name of the law, and tell me a little bit about the law and what it forces hospitals to do.

Here is a great link about hospital mergers.. & as for my state (Maine)
In 1992, the state of Maine became the first to pass a state action exemption for hospital mergers. As of 1996, 19 states had some form of state action exemption for hospital mergers, but only two or three mergers using state action exemption had taken place by 1995 (Samuels and Teske 1995, 234). State regulatory actions are immune from the antitrust laws when a state, usually through legislation, articulates and affirmatively expresses an intent to displace competition with regulation and actively supervises the merging organizations’ compliance (FTC v. Ticor 1992).
