Is feline feces bad for pugs?

Asked by dingus108 (233points) October 26th, 2008

It’s disgusting I know, but my pug goes out in our backyard and eats cat poop all the time. I’m not too sure if it’s bad for him or not. I can’t stand picking him up and smelling it on his breath, it’s gross. I do know that if they eat their own, that it’s for a reason, but he eats the cat’s like it’s desert.

Any thoughts?

No, coprophagia will most likely not harm him. http://www.dog-obedience-training-review.com/stop-dogs-eating-dog-poop.html

The easiest solution is to invest in a “pooper-scooper” and clean up the feces.

If the cats belong to you, you can add a product called “Forbid” to their food that makes the poop taste bad (go figure).

It’s bad. Do NOT let him eat it again. That’s what my vet said.

I’m pretty sure any feces is bad for anything to eat.

Why are your cats’ poops available in the first place? They should know how to bury them.
If the ground in your yard is too hard to dig, could you install an above-dog-height cat poopery, like a jungle gym with litter in it? A little ladder, a big box, some legs?

The really interesting question for me is how do you get your cat to poop outside? Here emptying the litter box is one of my daily chores.

My dog is addicted to cat poo like an addict is addicted to cocaine.

we use a litter box and I’m in the process of getting rid of it.

and to answer your question in another way; only if they kiss you afterward.

My vet laughed when I told her. I thought it was disgusting, she called it “kitty caviar’, and dogs love it because cats get a high protein diet, much of which is excreted.
