Which is better: Medicaid or CHIP?

Asked by 2late2be (2292points) November 3rd, 2008

If i could apply for both and qualify for any, which one is better to have? This would be for my 2 year old toddler.

Well…the SCHIP plans vary from state to state, as do what is covered under Medicaid.

You don’t have your home state on your profile….I would contact your local Department of Jobs and Family Services (or whoever covers Medicaid and the SCHIP plan in your state).

You need to contact your local health and human services agency. Or look at their web site for the information. A lot depends on your situation, the amount of shared cost you would be responsible for and what services are offered with each. Typically, Medicaid does not cover any sort of preventive care and very minimal vision and dental. I wouldn’t be surprised if Texas didn’t offer either vision or dental. In general, Texas offers the bare essentials in social services.
Also, your local agency can tell you what other services you are eligible for.
