Why didn't George Bush the father help George Bush the son during his presidency so we'd be in a 'better' position in our economy/world/etc?

I remember hearing a vocal George HW Bush saying that his son should put a lid on the talk of War back in 2001 or 2002.
Guess the son didn’t want to listen.
No footnotes, but I remember reading over and over that W was determined
to prove to his father that he didn’t need any help. Nevertheless he stuffed his
cabinet full of older men who’d served under his father.

Carl Rove and Dick Cheney to tell him what to do.
If there is any truth to the movie “W”, they often don’t see eye to eye. I have always thought a big motivator for Jr. to get in to this war was to “show Daddy how to do it right”. In the movie Jr. was critical that his father had not done the job right the first time. I have thought many times during the last eight years that George Sr. didn’t look so bad after all.

Because, once when asked a similar question by the press, W said that he answered to a “higher father”.

It was reported that after 9/11 that Jr made it known he wanted Daddy to butt out
Bush Jr. only listens to “heavenly Father”.
Thus he destroyed America.
Echoing susanc’s comment, the W. presidency was chock-full of mainstays from the Reagan and H.W. Bush administrations. Cheney was H.W.‘s Secretary of Defense.
