How do you keep your focus?

Asked by dynamicduo (14392points) November 18th, 2008

Whether it’s a task or a hobby, what are some of your tried and true methods for remaining aware of your current progress, for completing parts of the remaining work, and ensuring you remain motivated to complete the rest of it?

Fun things and boring things, work things and personal things, I’m looking for techniques and tips that would help with all of these.

I’ve explored some basic meditation techniques, but I’ve never really gotten deep into it. Do you have any suggestions as to where to start?

Tazo Zen green tea from Starbucks or elsewhere is my focus keeper.

I sure do, just go into a quiet room and sit on the floor or bed, and close your eyes, try to clear your head of everything, focus on something that you like as a peaceful place like the ocean.Listen to the waves hit the shore and listen to the seagulls flying over head and the sun heating up your skin as you are sitting on the beach.Just listen to the waves.Concentrate on the waves and what is going on at the ocean. this should help. or you can try to focus on a fireplace and the flames. these should help. I find that the ocean works the best. Hope this helps! :)

Lists. I love lists. Lists for the whole month, lists for the next hour. Not because I’ll necessarily forget anything, but because I’m so afraid I will, it drives me crazy.

I try to chip away a little at a time. That gets me started which motivates me to do more. Just getting started is the hard part once I’m rollin look out. In other words I try to focas on small parts of big jobs and stick with not being overwelmed by the big picture.

Getting up early helps a lot in keeping me concentrated as well as cool throughout the day. Also occasionally looking at the picture of my family , kept on my table,, makes me easy.

To-do lists!
When things start going beyond what you can easily balance, make to-do and include time to making and reviewing the list on your daily schedule – it’s 10 minutes well spent!

Also, I find committing to deliver keeps me on track. If I have a deadline and someone expecting me to deliver, I will. If I don’t have to deliver, it’s easier to push down the list of priorities….

It depends on what I’m trying to keep focus on.

Anything tedious and simple, I smoke pot first. It eases me down, so I don’t get distracted by boredom.

If it’s intellectually difficult, I’m not going to lie, masturbating first helps. Not trying to be crude, it just calms you the hell down.

Lists help me get everything done, and I make them all the time. I don’t see how they help you focus though.
