If you live with other people, how much of the TV time do you control the remote?

Asked by cdwccrn (3610points) December 26th, 2008 from iPhone

My husband and I share the bedroom TV, though he usually has control over which sports/news shows are on, though I get to go to sleep with a sitcom on.

None, at all. Ever. My mom must have the remote at all times.

Never. (Or, in theory, Always.)

I don’t watch television, and in an ideal world, there wouldn’t be a TV in my house. Since this isn’t the case, I usually don’t have anything to do with the television. When it’s on I just go upstairs.

If I do want to watch something there isn’t really anything anyone can do. I can always argue that I’ve let everyone else have control of the remote for the past 8 months, and afterward they can have control of the thing for another 8 months, and they’re being unreasonable if they refuse. In this respect I always have control of the remote.

Whoever isn’t online gets the remote.

I’m not much of a tv watcher so if I do reach for the remote, time stands still and nobody moves. That is until they start complaining about whatever it is that I’ve chosen.

I have my own television. No one controls my remote but me. I usually end up watching my DVDs of I, Claudius, Monty Python or Doctor Who for the umteenth time, anyway!

When we’re watching TV together, we kind of trade back and forth…whenever the show we’ve chosen becomes ridiculous, we sigh and hand the remote over so the other can pick a different ridiculous show.

@augustlan: sounds like a plan.
