Can you figure out this math problem?

Asked by queenzboulevard (2551points) December 30th, 2008

Something that goes 1 inch in 30 days is traveling how many miles per hour?

This isn’t my homework, I just thought about it because I was wondering how fast hair grows (if you can grow it an inch in a month lol)

I’m not doing your homework for you. Seriously this is just a conversion problem.

1 inch = how many miles?
30 days = how many hours?

Divide. ____ miles / ___ hours.

Fellow Flutherers, don’t answer queenz’ question. Make queenz do the work.

0.000000022 mph

Jeez. Come on netxm. Fluther does not exist to do people’s homework

5280 feet equals 1mile, 1 foot equals 12 inches…you will need those to covert inches to miles…and 24 hours for 1 day.

Netxm, I will need to see your work or no credit!

@Perchik it took me 3 minutes…. by the way are you russian

Let’s see.

12 inches in a foot
5280 feet in a mile

24 hours in a day

one inch in 30 days is…one inch in 30 days times 24 hours, or one inch in 720 hours

So to go a mile it would be 720 hours per inch, times 12 inches time 5,280 feet, or one mile in….45,619,200 hours

So, 1/45619200th of a mile an hour, or….

Yep, .00000002192mph

netxm's avatar

1 mile = 63360 inches
30 days = 720 hours
1/63360=0.000016 miles
0.000016/720=0.000000022 mph

Ok, now convert that to furlongs / fortnight. :o)

@Grisson – .00000092 check it out if you don’t believe me

@dalepetrie Awesome! As an aside, Digital Equipment Corporation’s VMS operating system had a system parameter that was measured in microfortnights (a little over a second).

Wow, I’d never even heard the concept of a microfortnight, very cool!
