A more memorable url?
and videos are starting to work for me.

o0's avatar

Yes, the url is a little interesting. It has no vowels so it is literally impossible to pronounce. It is my name without any vowels.

A quick glance at the site…

(I hope you are really looking for constructive criticism here…)

I don’t really get what the point of it is….? I see that you are a graphic designer. If I was interested in graphic design what about your site would make me want to visit?

If you are wanting an avenue to display your talents, I would suggest you build a site that acts as a gateway to lots of things related to your field. W/ lots of links…..

I realize that this site is not in your field. However, it is a site I discovered recently. W/in a few mintues I signed up to receive daily emails. These missives contain links that reference me to other related previous posts. Each of these posts contain more comments and tips by other visitors. The site is also not afraid to link you to other sites for more tips and info, which I find helpful.

Hope this helps :)

Snoopy thank you for the constructive criticism. you gave me some good things to think about.

How do you expect me to remember it without being able to say it? I have to memorize it? No thanks. I assume your name is Grant Walker but I prefer something I can mention to a friend without having to think, find pen and paper and write it out. You already lost me. I have no intention of ever visiting.

asmonet: thank you for your comment. The fact that you were able to guess my name is proof that it is readable. I do appreciate your honesty.

Hmm maybe a better layout. It looks a little plain to look at, which insinuates that the blog itself might be boring. and like said before video is becoming more popular now days. Also you need more substance. I see some cool photos and what not, but nothing really to read about.
Also I don’t think your URL is too hard to figure out or remember. its just grant walker but you drop the vowels

asmonet's avatar

@o0: It isn’t proof it was readable, the only reason I was even thought it was a name was because of the context of this question here on fluther. If someone had shown me the letters with no background I would not have come to the same conclusion most likely. I in turn appreciate your taking this all in stride. :)

I did end up going after reading @LKidKyle1985 ‘s quip. I agree with him that it does seem plain. This is how I would redesign it.

That’s my ten minute photoshop upgrade. :)
I think photobucket screwed the background up when it auto-resized it, it should be very small stripes.

Hope this doesn’t sound harsh.
I just think a nice critique is a pointless critique.

It’s set up as a blog, but there isn’t too much writing.
Right now, it kind of seems like a lazy man’s website.
Looks like you just embedded Wordpress and threw up some images.
The more time and effort that it appears that you’ve invested,
the more likely that readers will do the same. And, of course, content.

Not entirely unlike some answers to this other question,
your site should also be another opportunity to show off your work.
Unless I was planning on writing more, I’d ditch the
blog format and opt for a more image-driven approach.
Or at least not have it as the main focus of your site.

Might be a bit of a cliche, but maybe have your url cleaned up
and put front and center on your splash page. You’re selling
yourself, right? If that’s your brand, where would you put it?

Probably need to be consistent with your branding.
Your url is pared down (no vowels), the rest of the site should be too.
Right now it’s just looks like a dinky half-thought. But it’s got potential.
A clean and simple layout could work quite well for you.

SPLASH PAGE
—> artist/designer info/bio
—> projects (past, present, future)
—> blog
—> contact

Another thing to keep in mind is figuring out who you want
your target audience to be and what you want them to get out of it.
Obvious, but important.

PS Your edited response is much of an improvement and appreciated.
Welcome to Fluther.

Original, unique, and interesting content.

How about something like this?

Might be a tad obvious,
but it’s clean and reinforces your idea.
Plus, it’s errr…designy. Don’t you love my vocabulary?

asmonet's avatar

I lurve it.

Nimis's avatar

T’anks.

asmonet's avatar

Maybe if it was animated on a splash screen to start as grantwalker, have the vowels fade and the consonants slide together. Then it could redirect you, or even just have that as the banner at the top.

No looping though, don’t you dare.

Nimis's avatar

@asmonet I was thinking the same—design jinx!
Yes, no looping. Would have to hunt you down to kick you in the arse if you did.
Don’t make me. [shakes a tentacle menacingly]

asmonet's avatar

Don’t you need feet to kick something? Wouldn’t it be more of a THWAP in the arse?

Nimis's avatar

Really? I just figured all I needed to do was put on some shoes.
Though I do kind of like the idea of just THWAPPING someone.

asmonet's avatar

Sounds wrong.

I LOVE IT.

You don’t seem convey any useful information in the blog; it’s all self-promotional. The blogs I visit on a daily basis teach me something. And nothing’s more annoying than a URL that is not easily recalled.

Thank you for all your input, I have much to think about.

cwilbur's avatar

Interesting written content. If I read it and it makes me think, I’ll add it to my RSS feed. If it’s just fluff, or just “me too” posts, it’s not worth adding to the RSS feed.

interesting/useful/amazing contents n very easy/quick access.like ur bolg, i even cant access it-_-#

AlfredaPrufrock's avatar

Your name is easy to guess from your url. Reading it when you see it, and remembering it and having to delete the vowels in order to type it, are two different things. It’s annoying.

o0's avatar

thank you everyone who gave input. Here is the product of your input, of course more criticism is welcome. www.typeandglyph.com The target audience of this blog is graphic designers and those who want to learn about typography.

asmonet's avatar

It’s weird that they’re registered in different states.

o0's avatar

Why is that weird? I registered the domain name through a different company than my old domain.

asmonet's avatar

I meant the owner information, through the whois search. They’re at separate seemingly residential addresses.

o0's avatar

I’m just curious as to why you bring that up. It sounds accusatory, but I’m not sure of what or why. Maybe I misinterpreted the statement.

asmonet's avatar

Just an observation, it’s neither here nor there.
