Being unforgiving?

Vinifera7's avatar

@Blondesjon
Pedophilia is a sexual attraction toward children. It’s only a crime if it’s acted upon. Luckily we don’t have thought crime… yet.

ark_a_dong's avatar

Nothing, I’ve already seen all the videos on youtube, anyways.

Vinifera7's avatar

Anyway, my answer is willful ignorance.

KrystaElyse's avatar

Actually, according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), pedophilia is specified as a form of paraphilia in which a person either has acted on intense sexual urges towards children, or experiences recurrent sexual urges towards and fantasies about children that cause distress or interpersonal difficulty.

So it can be both.

Blondesjon's avatar

@Vinifera7…Way to stand up for…pedophiles?

I guess everyone needs a champion

wundayatta's avatar

I dunno, but I guess I thought what George Bush did to this country and the world, was rather unforgiveable. He deliberately and malicioiusly raped the world for the benefit of his friends. He created wars, and actively worked to destroy the planet we depend on. I’m glad he’s gone. I wish he’d never lived, and I do find his works unforgiveable.

Vinifera7's avatar

@KrystaElyse
The DSM is subject to change. I don’t think that definition is particularly suitable. Or there needs to be another term for what I described.

cak's avatar

Any act of cruelty committed willfully against humans (all ages) and animals. Unforgivable.

Vinifera7's avatar

@Blondesjon
So what? The way I see it, there’s nothing wrong with being sexually attracted with children as long as it is not acted upon. If it is acted upon, it is a violation of the rights of the affected children.

Besides that, I see nothing intrinsically wrong with it.

KrystaElyse's avatar

@Vinifera7
Nothing wrong with that?! Are you out of your mind? I mean, seriously?

Vinifera7's avatar

@KrystaElyse
I’m perfectly in my mind, thank you.

PupnTaco's avatar

I mean this in the most nonjudgmental way possible: YUK

Blondesjon's avatar

@Vinifera7,...Wow…I uh…wow.

I need a shower

aprilsimnel's avatar

“Forgiveness” meaning what? I think people believe “forgiveness” means as soon as there’s an apology or restitution, all is 100% hunky dory again as before. In my opinion, this isn’t the case. I can attempt to understand what happened and feel compassion for the fact that a person believes they have to do something against someone else to get their needs met. But though people can be forgiven their bad deeds, the trust, once broken, is gone until it’s earned back. Sometimes, that’s never.

wundayatta's avatar

Oh come on! Have you all never had a weird fantasy that the world would hate if you acted on it? Have you been able to hold yourself back from acting on it? Fantasy is not reality, and we would all do well to remember that.

Vinifera7's avatar

In my mind, pedophilia is comparable to homosexuality, or any sexuality. Certain people are going to find it natural, while others will exhibit the “yuck” factor, like @PupnTaco.

However, I don’t think pedophiles have the right to take advantage of children, and they should be punished when they do.

cak's avatar

@Vinifera7 – I understand you are talking about the very technical sense of the definition; however, I am a mother of two wonderful children. A wonderful 5 yr old son and a daughter weeks away from 15 – I don’t want ANY adult thinking of them in a sexual way.

I don’t care what the term is – I know what you are saying – it’s just not something that I’ve ok with – even in the strictest definition of the term.

KrystaElyse's avatar

@Vinifera7
How can you place pedophilia in the same category as homosexuality or any other sexuality?! Homosexuality is OK, pedophilia is NOT OK.

Vinifera7's avatar

@KrystaElyse
Because it is a form of sexuality in my mind.

Blondesjon's avatar

Yeah…I’m not going to start debating NAMBLA right now. Everyone does have a right to think what they want but this is one of the few things I personally find to be repugnant.

Vinifera7's avatar

Fine with me! This discussion is really getting off on a tangent. Get back on topic, please.

KrystaElyse's avatar

Fine with me as well. We agree to disagree.

jonsblond's avatar

May I interrupt?

I find decaffinated coffee and non- alcoholic beer to be unforgivable.

Diet soda too. Oh yeah, half calorie ice cream.

Vinifera7's avatar

@KrystaElyse
Sorry, but you had to say it. You just had to say that we agree to disagree. I didn’t agree to anything. I merely stated my opinion. Whether or not you agree with me has no consequence for my life.

Now you may continue.

cak's avatar

@jonsblond LOL!!!

I may not agree, but I love the interruption!

Mtl_zack's avatar

@all Pedophilia is a fetish like any other. Different people have different tastes. Some people like hot wax, some people like other bodily fluids, some people like feet. Some people like younger people.

Now, for the thing that I think is unforgivable: when people stab you in the back.

@lrk Who is innocent?

jonsblond's avatar

@Irk. Hurting innocent young children doesn’t count?

or the thought of it

jonsblond's avatar

That’s right. Thoughts don’t hurt.

I’ll stick with the decaf then

lrk's avatar

@Mtl_zack “Innocent” meaning “not deserving of action by the party who actioned against them.”

@jonsblond I’m not saying it’s appropriate; I’m saying there is probably at least one case where someone hurt an entirely innocent child where I could emphathize with the attacker.

Forgiveness would not be mine to give unless I was somehow related to the child…

jonsblond's avatar

@Irk. You can empathize with someone attacking a child? Really?

How big of you

tabbycat's avatar

Intentional cruelty toward humans or animals.

jonsblond's avatar

@tabbycat lurve to the best answer (in my opinion) yet!

lrk's avatar

@jonsblond In most cases, probably not. In at least one? Probably.

I said EXTRA HOT Barista! Do they just hand out that title or what?!

tennesseejac's avatar

@jonsblond even though “cak” said the same thing way earlier before all of this got out of hand i agree with that answer….. and rape in the face (even the thought of rape in the face!!), c’mon.

mij's avatar

Not giving people from other countries and cultures the respect they deserve, even if you feel you don’t want to like them at least show a bit of your own decency and make them feel welcome.
I always find once you break down barriers of culture and language deep down were all pretty much after the same, a half decent life, a chance to show what we have to offer and a better life for our children.
Is it too much to want a roof over your head, food, clean water and the right to live alongside your neighbour in peace and harmony.
My wife welcomes any new neighbours into our cul-de-sac, with a fresh baked loaf of bread or some shortbread, needless to say we have made some wonderful friends over the years.

jonsblond's avatar

@tennesseejac You’re right. Looks like tabbycat and I need to read the previous answers before answering. Kudos to cak, and to you also rape in the face is pretty unforgivable!

I can give you a great answer, but I can’t lurve you anymore! ;)
