What is your favorite episode of The Simpsons?

Asked by SuperMouse (30845points) January 29th, 2009

Mine is the one where Bart becomes a goodfella, starts working for Fat Tony and mixes “the best daiquiri’s in Springfield.”* There are so many that would be tied for second; the one where Bart gets the boot, the Flaming Homer, the lemon tree, or maybe Timmy O’Toole in the well.

* It was daiquiri’s wasn’t it Bri L?

Crayon in the brain. Love that episode. So hilarious yet touching too.

Lisa’s Cool Summer. Where she’s the cool one for a change. Followed closely by the B-Sharps.

The crayon one for sure. I like when Homer disproves god and shows the calculations to Flanders.

I liked the 3D episode with the alternate dimension behind the cabinet.
“Cut the Boron, Pointdexter!” Chief Wiggum

Crayon in the brain was pretty great too, and the first one with Bleeding Gums Murphy, or the one where Homer eats the psychedelic chili and goes on a vision quest…

The episode where O.J. breaks into that dude’s place and takes some sports memorabilia.

I like the episode where Homer wants to be a farmer so he moves out in the country. His land is infertile so he steals some nuclear waste and puts it on his crops. He is growing tobacco alongside tomatoes and they somehow cross and share d.n.a. So the tomatoes are full of nicotine. Homer calls it tomacco. Homer’s barnyard animals get into the vegetable patch, eat some, and become addicted. They start acting crazy and eat most of the crop. Homer takes some to town and the citizens become addicted too. Everyone is eating tomacco’s. Ralphie Wiggum bites into one and says “Eww daddy, it taste like grandma’s breath.”

I also like the one where Homer gets prescribed medical marijuana and him and Otto the busdriver are smoking weed in the attic.

Anything with Groundskeeper Willie! My boys used to let me know whenever he made an appearance… I feel like ripping my shirt open now and going to battle with the wolves or was it coyotes?
Aye, he’s a funny wee man…

The one with Hank Scorpio and the Globex Corporation. Every character’s story arc is golden, and when Hank pulls the sugar out of his pockets I want to be able to pull sugar out of MY pockets like that.

Also, I always enjoy a good Abe episode – “unadulterated pap!” :)

For me it’s a tie:

Camp crusty where we learn about Crusty’s cattle mark birthmark and 3rd nipple.

And

Monorail Whats that called? MONORAIL! Guest star Leonard Nemoy, Written by Conan O’Brien it has so many little details it rocks.

You know, there are so many great episodes I’d have a hard time picking one, so I’ll probably have to figure out a way to ramble on until you think I’ve answered the question even though I haven’t really. I’m pretty good at that, I’ve got several ways of doing it.

One trick is to tell stories that don’t go anywhere. Like the time I caught the ferry to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for m’shoe. So I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt. Which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on ‘em. Gimme five bees for a quarter, you’d say. Now where was I… oh yeah. The important thing was that I had an onion tied to my belt, which was the style at the time. You couldn’t get white onions, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones…

Grandpa is definitely my favorite characer.

I loved when Santa’s Little Helper was injured and had to wear an e-colar and wheels…grandpa saw him and exclaimed, “the lamp is running away.”

or when grandpa dropped his teeth and a turtle got hold of them, and they were having a low speed chase, then you hear off screen, “ow, he bit me with my own teeth.”

or when Bart and Lisa submitted an episode of Itchy and Scratchy in Grandpa’s name and they called him to ask him is he was the Abe Simpson who wrote it…he was all confused, but when they told him they had a fat check with his name on it, “I did the Iggy.”

One of my other favorite golden moments was the Simpsons 138th Episode special where Troy McClure ran us through some of the best moments of the first 6+ seasons. When he was recapping the “Who Shot Mr. Burns?” episode, he showed us an alternate ending that had been filmed where Smithers (not Maggie) had shot Mr. Burns. Then after they show the alternate ending he says something to the effect of “of course, for that ending to work, you would have to ignore all the Simpson DNA evidence, and that would be downright nutty!” That’s what makes the show for me….this extremely subtle, yet extremely biting social commentary. Kind of like what Colbert does…Simpsons is often very political and very left leaning as well, yet it’s subtle enough not to outright alienate conservative viewers…which is when satire works best…when even the butt of the joke can laugh (often unwittingly).
